I know that having limewire, since it's such a popular share program, is risky when it comes to viruses and spyware.

BUT--do the viruses/spyware/and whatever else come from the type of files u download thru others OR from downloading limeware itself?!

Hi,
The viruses/sypware come from the files that u download from limewire and not from limewire itself.

I would advice u to be careful as in what u download. E.g. if ur searching for a song called 'ghetto gospel' and if it's size is less than 1 mb then it is obvious that the file is not the song but a virus/spyware. Secondly, if the file is an 'exe' then it is again obvious that it is a virus/spyware.

Thirdly, it is always a good habit to virus scan the file before opening it after downloading it.

So, always check the file size to verify that it is not a virus/spyware.

Hope that helps

There are no Limewire virii as such. It isn't like Kazaa, where a method was found to embed malware in the files. If you are using Limewire for the intended purpose, music files, etc, you will not get a virus. However, if you are downloading executable files, or possibly zip files, you can end up with problems. Keep firewall, spyware and anti-virus programmes up-to-date.

Its completely safe to download Limewire itself; the viruses come from the files you download from limewire.

To keep yourself safe, make sure you have an up-to-date virus scanner like McAfee, and don't download anything with a ".exe" extension. Also be very cautious about files with a ".zip" extension.

This won't competely guard you from viruses, but it will make you alot safer.

I can not say from where the virus comes in limewire. Better to be on safeside. You may be having a virus or spyware installed on your PC. You insatll a standard antivirus soft ware such as Norton, AVG , Avast ( free antivirus software and Ad-aware, Ewido ( free spyware removers). You can download free softwares at
