I live in Nj and just aquired my permit to purchase, one for shotgun and one for pistol. My question is I want to hunt for deer, turkey, pheasant, And some small game.My dilema is that I don't want to own ten different guns. What would be my best all around choice? I can live with a slug gun and maybe one other gun.I have spoke to many dealers and friends alike and they kinda confuse me with al this interchangeable barrels and all that good stuff.I would love to just write down the name too two guns and go and buy them and start my practice.Any information will be put to good use.I think I just needed to get a broader opinion about this dilema thank you to all who respond.....

You can't go wrong with a Remington 870 Pump shotgun in 12 guage. The ability to change barrels is a great advantage. My 870 is now 32 years old and runs like a champ. When I use it to compete in 3-gun IPSC matches I put on a ported slug barrel and a 7 shot extension tube. My step son wanted to deer hunt with it. I took off the extension tube and put on the stock tube and added a shotgun scope. I then needed it for bird hunting, off came the slug barrel and scope and I put on the 28 inch barrel which is set up for screw in chokes.
The changes I make to the shotgun do not require a gunsmith and take about 5 to 10 minutes to do.
It saddened me to see that you had to get a permit just to buy the shotgun in New Jersey. Here in Wyoming, I go to the store, select which gun (shotgun, rifle, handgun) I want, write a check, and take it home.

Definitely 12 guage whatever the manufacturer,
Remington or Mossberg will be your best bet
Most people will advocate the Remington 870 but I would suggest the Mossberg 835 with a barrel combo, perfect for all types of game and the 3 1/2" capability makes an appreciable difference in waterfowl hunting (along with easily changable choke tubes) and slug deer hunting.

There is nothing wrong with the Remington but Mossberg will offer all the quality and usability with a lower price simply because you are not paying for the Remington name, although aftermarket modifications are more prevelant for the Remi.

As for your pistol pick up a 1911 .45ACP. Kimber (Custom II)comes to mind as the best value, and it's hard to go wrong with Colt (1991 series.) Or a .357 Magnum Revolver, probably a Smith & Wesson K or L frame.

Simple. Remington 870 Express Magnum. Buy the combo and get the field shot barrel and the slug barrel in one purchase. Reliable beyond belief. The Magnum will allow you to fire 3 inch shells along with the 2 3/4 inch, a good idea if you are considering turkey and goose.

I have been Deer Hunting for 11 years and have used the same gun for deer, turkey, and small game. I belive it is the best all around shotgun for the money. The Remington 870 Express 12 gauge.

There are lots. But for shotguns Remington makes a good 12 gauge. Either the the Model 870 (pump action) or 1187 (semi-auto) will work for a good all around gun. They are well built and affordable.

"I don't want to own ten different guns" = Only own ten guns? that's a fate too awful to even contemplate!!

I will echo most of the others who have suggested the Remington 870, you can't go wrong...

you didn't mention what your intended use for the pistol was.

Self Defense - a good reliable semi auto 45acp such as a Colt Gold Cup Trophy - Wilson Combat -

Hunting - S & W M629

Targets/plinking - Ruger MKII - S & W M63

Buy a 870 combo with a rifled barrel for slugs and game barrel with screw in chokes.the express are good guns but you will not beat a 870 wingmaster. It will last you a lifetime.

The reason you feel confident around girls you're not attracted to is because you frankly don't care what they say or think about you. Ever wonder why the jerks get the hotties? It's because they don't care what the hotties think of them. So here is the catch 22....if you really want to the hotties to like you, you've got to get to a place where it doesn't matter to you one way or the other. Then you'll have the confidence to talk to them and ask them all the dangerous questions. Good Luck!
