jumping rope is pure cardio it will help to elevate your resting metabolic rate (RMR) if you do it correctly (do a search on HIIT cardio or MAX OT cardio) by elevating your RMR you body will burn more fat at rest...

It's really great for your entire body. You need to use your arms and legs of course, but you're also using your abs to help lift your legs. Of course, there is the cardio benefit too!
