I can give you a little bit from personal experience. I have suffered from severe depression and constant thoughts of suicide off and on for many years. For me what helps is having a person around that cares, but does not push me to do things I cant do. Having someone telling me not to kill myself, and how wrong it is, and how I am better off alive doesnt help me when I am in that state. My best advice to you is that you be there and talk to this person as a friend, without making threats or trying to convince them that they cant kill themselves. that never works. The next thing you need to do is call a help line and get this person the help they really need, because they really need to seek professional medical advice. Sometimes there are chemical imbalances in the brain that can lead to severe depression, and there are lots of other mental illnesses that can cause depression. If this is the case your friend can be put on some type of anti depressant medication that will help the symptoms of depression. Here is a toll free number for you to try: 1-800-273-TALK (8255). The people on this help line can give you more detailed information that will help you and your friend seek proper medical advice, and they may be able to more properly explain to you the things that you can do for your friend. I hope I was able to help you. Good luck! *hugs*

I think it is great that you are showing kindness and concern towards this person, you are probably a good friend to those around you. Unforunately, I think unless you know who this person is there is not a lot you can do.
