You can get a civil engineering degree without a lot of design, but you will need to do a lot of analysis. You will still have to take some design courses and design will be basically done in upper division classes, but it is not something that is creative. That is you would be basically solving for design variables of something that already has a defined shape and purpose. When you graduate you can go into engineering management and manage construction which is not design work. Or since you like drafting the is an area of civil engineering that deals with land design or drawing up new subdivisions and getting environmental permits. Suffice it to say that there are some areas of civil engineering that are not at all heavy in design and there is much more to the job in other areas. And you you stick around anywhere long enough and do good job you can move into management and others will take care of the fine details while you look at the big picture.

Sounds like you have had a bad experience in some design class. Look into civil engineering, maybe you will find something you like, and like enough to get through some design that is not too complicated.

God bless you.

A drafting degree is a degree you could pursue. As far as engineering goes you can become a materials engineer because a lot of their time is spent in testing as well as in designing materials however not design in the way that they design buildings or circuits.

If you really enjoy drafting then go for that. You won't make as much as an engineer would but if you aren't happy with engineering then there's not a whole lot of point in pursuing it.

Also it's possible to go to school for engineering and find yourself in other types of positions. A person with a civil or structural engineering background could find themself involved in construction management and the list goes on. If you get a degree in engineering and don't enjoy design it's still applicable to other areas.

I also agree to the fact that material science, or chemical engineering would involve less design. However, you should ask yourself why you would work in a field refusing to do it's main purpose. Engineering is about finding practical solutions, and oftentimes design is a part of it. The design is part of the training, because the engineer must be able to explain his ideas once he finds a solution.

Compare:
I'm bad at design, but I really love drafting
I'm bad at walking, but I really love getting on my feet.

Do you just need to practice? Knowing what you want to do, you will get success if you stick to your plan. I wish you good luck.

Almost ALL engineering degree requires a lot of design, and involves using lots of engineering software such as AUTOCAD, MATLAB, etc.etc.

I suppose the best bet would be materials engineering, chemical engineering. It doesn't really matter if you are bad at design but if you are good in computing and softwares.

I thought engineering WAS design. If you are bad at design, I recommend a field other than engineering.

You might want to consider something else besides engineering. If you don't think you can design and build anything well. You can still be a pilot, medical doctor-professional or a surgeon, mechanic and Astronomer even if you can't design, construct or do much when it comes to designing and using your hands.

You should look into an engineering technology degree instead of an engineering science degree.

whoah! engineering is about designing, mate! Try another field like law then you can become a politician. While being one, you'll need lesser creativity and imagination. Once you get tired of politics, you can always shift to acting and make movies.
