The alarm button on my car goes off for no reason where do I take it to get it checked out? Can't afford VW garage so do I take it to an ordinary garage, one whcih specialises in alarms(electronics) or are there places which deal with alarms?

Have no one to ask so any help would be appreciated ! X

I know the answer to this one...open the bonnet and check the battery ,you will find water half way up the battery-this is due to a blocked water leak off under the battery tray which then allows water to leak into the car through the pollen filter housing.to cure this fault remove battery and clean out drain, let the water run away.Next check the rear carpets for dampness-if these are then lift the passanger front carpet and dry as much water out as poss....hopefully you have caught it in time as the water can leak into the control unit under the glovebox--expensive--
If i am wrong with this guess then check 2 other places-bonnet catch for operation of switch may be faulty and last boot lock may be wet due to rear washer jet hose leaking(only on estates)

The batteries will be the problem, but you need to check if your smoke alarm is wired in to the electrics in your home or just one that has been screwed to the ceiling. If it's just screwed to the ceiling, then just replace the batteries. As you take the old ones out check the connections so you put the new ones in the same. Sometimes they need a real good push to get them to really connect. If your alarms are wired in, they could still just have ordinary batteries, so again just change, but if they are rechargeable, then you will perhaps need to find your fuse box. They are usually wired in to the lights. So turn the switch to the lights off for a while and then turn back on. You may have to do this a couple of time and hopefully problem solved. If not then it may mean you need a new alarm.

Get a free battery check at somewhere like Kwikfit. If your battery is slowly losing voltage this will be detected by your alarm similar to the voltage drop detected when the interior light comes on.

Now this is going to sound ridiculous but trust me its serious, close your air vents, last thing before you stop the car, put it onto recirculate air rather than drawing air from outside. Its windy as buggery at the moment and air rushing in can be enough to set off an ultrasonic internal alarm if you have one. Putting the blowers onto re-cirulate effectively closes off any outside air from getting in, but remember to change it when you first get back in or you'll be steamed up in no time.

Sounds cracked but it could be whats causing it.

Are all the doors and boot properly shut? Does the battery in the key fob need changing?

Your local garage should be able to advise you.

VW Passat 54 plate estate. Remove the fuse for the central locking, its disarms the alarm, however, the windows wont work whilst driving. So, keep the fuse in when driving and just pull it out when parking. It gives the electrics a chance to dry out, so after a couple of dry days try alarm again.
PS. If you can remove the battery, & this isn't easy, clean out the drain hole so as to stop rain water filling it up again

is it factory alarm, or aftermarket.

if aftermarket, have the "brain-box" repositioned under the dash. its probably picking up electromagnetic interferance and causing the alarm to go off. usually just move the brain-box a few inches away from wires and it will fix the problem.

Ask the VW dealer for advice
We had the same trouble with our Rover, and it often happened in the middle of the night
Good luck

If it's the type of alarm you activate with the key fob then try changing the batteries in the fob. It worked for me.
