The exact number is secrete. Some rockets have 4 nukes each. It's more than 2200. China and the Soviets have about the same number as the USA. Iran could buy 100s now on the black market. If they have a reason to do that. If Iran buys one nuke that would take out Israel in total. Bush has refused to ask Putin to put his nukes under Putins control. The Soviets can not even afford to pay troops to guard the nukes, they are broke from the Afghanistan war.
BTW, China has a one million man army, they also have twice the number of tanks as we do. China could invade the USA with half that Army number. We need to guard or own borders.

The US has quite a few tactical nukes (50 sq mi radius weapon) and only a few strategic nukes (a cubic butt-load more range of destruction, also being phased out under various treaties, and, due to service life coming to a reasonable end, being dismantled). That 2.5 k number may be valid. The Ukraine holds the next largest stockpile behind the US, followed by Russia, UK, Germany, and France. Israel supposedly has the capability, but, that can neither be confirmed nor denied. Pakistan and India are also nuclear powers, as is China. I think those are more than enough nations with world ending arsenals.

Yes, we do have many more than others, however, we are a civilized country! Our president does not allow his sons to rape women for sport! Our President, no matter how much we like him, does not order the killing of 50 some of his own men because they could possibly be competition, and then turn around and kill their families, their friends, and anyone else in contact with them....hmmm???

What does it matter how man nuclear bombs we have? I would rather have these bombs in hand in case more leaders such as Saddam come into leadership and want war! How could we defend ourselves if they were to get the same weapons?

Countries who's leaders order the killings of entire familiies for no reason shouldn't have nuclear weapons readily available to them! They are not of sound mind and cannot possibly sustain from the use of them!

Our president is in no way perfect. I don't like him at all...but he is still our president! I don't agree with what is going on right now in the middle East...and I don't believe we like our soldiers dying for such reasons! However, we did elect him by majority....and majority rules! Therefore we are stuck with him for now!

In the end...my view is this...I would rather be left holding a loaded gun(in this case a nuclear bomb) when we countries in the world who kill entire cities with gas!

Great question. I know how many we should have. I'm sure you can guess what that number is.

I like Warren Buffett's idea. He and other billionaires are flirting with the idea of buying up all the world's nukes and destroying them. At a minimum, buying all those that are for sale, I guess.

It is sad that the US continues its own nuclear proliferation. We have adhered to the letter of non-proliferation agreements. But, not the spirit.

What we have done is be able to say "we are in compliance with the agreement to destroy 1,000 warheads of missile M-18."

Then, we invent a new missile not covered in existing agreements and production continues and escalates.

I am sure that the exact number is classified information, but my guess is that we have more than other countries since we developed a nuclear program first. Russia may be close to us though.

Roughly 13,000; noone else even has 1,000 besides Russia. Russia has about 17,000 but theyre not active and havnt been looked at since the 70s.

Alot of these people have no idea what theyre talking about, China only has roughly 150 Nukes.

It is actually classified. Though the U.S. and Russia have roughly the same while everyone has like a very low number.
Though it is odd you are asking Cold War era questions though I understand with Iran throwing uranium in everyone's eyes and North Korea just throwing it like confute shouting, "Look at me! Look at me!"

I got this straight off the main encyclopedia called wikipeida.

the usa has over 5000+ nuclear bombs and is closely matched with Russia. All other countries have really low.

to see exact amounts go to http://www.wikipedia.org and search around, and you will see exact answers
