It also depends if it is domestic. If this was your partner / husband / wife, you would face harsher penalties. But the two guys above me are right.

I take it by "aggravated assault" (which is not the name of a crime in California) you mean either assult with a deadly weapon (even if the victim is not injured) or assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury (even if the victim does not suffer GBI). California uses a 3-tiered sentencing scheme, and the available sentences for that offense (Penal Code section 245) are 2, 3, or four years in prison. The offense can also be filed as a misdemeanor, with a maximum sentence of one year in jail.
