Hey,

I'm hoping someone can help me. I've had a pretty bad sore throat since christmas day and I saw my GP on 27th who told me I have a throat infection and prescribed me some Antibiotics 500mg 3 times a day. I've nearly completed the course now and only have 1 day left of pills.
However, I've come down with a bad gagging cough that hurts my chest and kneck area. I can barely talk. I've been taking my antibiotics, painkillers and throat pastels along with gargling salt water. Nothing is working. My voice is painful and very hoarse and grating. Its difficult to speak. Hell I can barely talk!
My mum took me to walk in centre last night and it was a waste of time. Dr looked at my throat for about 2 seconds, told me to do what I'm already doing now and that it will take 2-3 weeks before I can talk properly again. That's basically it. He was useless and had a attitude problem. Any idea on whats wrong? What should I do?

I've tried gargling with everything lol. I'm desperate. The thing that's bothering me most is because I cant speak. I've had worse throats than this before but I could always speak. I can barely talk now and voice keeps breaking.

Go back and demand that the doctor see you again. Have you been tested for strep?

Laryngitis may develope with,or a few days after a sore throat causing hoarsenes, unless you cough blood or have a high fever it is not seriouse, just uncomfortable, you can try lots of fluids, and inhaling steam either by humidifier or a hot bath, also if you smoke avoid smoking. Usually it only lasts a few days ,but could last a few weeks, the less you talk the better. Get lots of rest.

Use a humidifier to add moisture to the air. This will help your throat feel better.

Also drink lots of cold water as this will help your throat feel better too.

You might want to take vitamin C and zinc to help fight the illness. Hope you feel better soon.

The thing to do is - Take it easy. Medicine has come a long way, but magic is what you want. Rest. Let time and nature heal you. Apple Cider is soothing to drink and has vitamin C to help.
