Local auto dealers, depending on the manufacturer you choose i.e. ford, dodge, chevy. Shop around at different dealerships test drive a few before you decide. I have a 96 jeep grand cherokee I purchased 3 years ago from A dealer about 30 miles away in Boise, Idaho and it came with a 6 month warranty. I haven't had any major problems with the vehicle other than normal maintenance and hoses and belts here and there.

Well, you can try to go to an auto auction or a police auction, but when you are buying it you are also at risk. If you want to be safe then you should lease an SUV. I have got my car from the on-line auction and I have spend 1500 for it. It's an 94 Nissan black and very clean. I had a few problems with it but after I have got it fix their were no more problems.

Autotrader.com and Carmax are good places to start. You should also check the classified ads of your local newspaper as well.
