i believe in evolution, homosexuality, and in some cases abortion. but i love god, jesus, and the holy ghost. i believe jesus was born, lived, and died so he could save the world from sin. i believe that most of the biblical stories were merely parables to teach us about life metaphorically. i am a devout methodist christian. i think that you can take parts of the bible and not believe them. religion is all about questioning your faith.
just another point, the REVEREND at my church shares my views.
so no, that is not an unforgivable sin

Creation is what Christians believe in. God created the Universe, Man and all that is in it. When you say evolution, you are talking Darwin's theory; the Ape evolved into man .... what you have here is Creation vs Evolution. On the Yahoo search engine, you will get enough information on both, and if you find that it is a sin, to believe in evolution, the discussion with a Theologian will help you to see your way more clearly. As with any sin repentance is needed, confession of sin, and absolution. The only unforgivable sin is the sin against the Holy Spirit. Yes, a person that repents from the sin can be forgiven

There is no such thing as the unforgivable sin. All sins are forgiven even if you don't know how to say it. Sometimes you are praying and you don't even know it.
Whoever says that a person who believes in evolution has committed the ultimate sin is a hypocrite. Are they god? No. Ultimately no one has the right to tell you that what you believe is wrong. They are your beliefs because you believe them. Others can have input, but they aren't always right.
I agree with you. Evolution was a beautiful process that is similar to how an artist would gradually shape a block of marble into a beautiful sculpture. In the bible it spoke about how god formed Adam out of clay and then gave him the gift or the breath of life. I'm sure this wasn't an easy task. I'm sure that going at it he was unsure of how he wanted his child to look. Any piece of artwork takes time. If you look at charts on evolution you see how over the centuries gradual changes have lead to things looking and being like they are. Things take time no matter who you are. God is perfect. He takes time to put that same perfection into everything he creates. He just took a few Milena.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as is now, has been and forever shall be.
Evolution and Christianity are not in conflict except in terms of how humans came to be. Even then, there's only conflict where evolution is applied to say that humans were originally something other than humans, because Scripture tells us we were created in the image of the Lord.
There are some who take the days of Genesis literally. While it is not outside of God's power to create the world in seven days, what then can be said of scientific understanding that the world is billions of years old, and the universe even older? Clearly our Creator works as He wishes, and this conundrum invites further scrutiny. The sad result is too often that science is rejected outright, and we end up with ministers who decry immunization, for example, and science in general of every discipline simply because of this one conundrum.
I hope you will continue your study, for I trust you will find that the universe reveals incredible testament to our Lord Jesus.
If this question still lays heavy on your heart, I suggest you turn to a professional theologian - the best you will find on Y!A is an amateur like me. But if Christ lives within you, what do you have to fear?

The Bible tells us that the Unforgivable sin is giving up on God and believing that God would never forgive us.
I agree with you that evolution probably does exist. We are still evolving.
People need to take courses in the Bible and to try and understand how the books of the Bible were put together and by whom. We believe in the living God Whose love story for us is in the Bible. We do not have to believe every word of the bible as some fundamentalist do. For example, in Genesis, which version of creation to you believe, if any of all. The Books of Revelation does not tell us about the end of the world as so many believe. It was written in code to give hope and encouragement to those Christians in prisons and about to die.
I suggest you find in your area where good Scriptural courses and being held. Suggestions would be your local seminary or Bible Study groups for Adults which take 4 years to finish.

Who knows how we really came into existence other than being planned by God, the master designer. Whether it was through evolution, adaptation, pure creation or a combination of any or all of these, God made us because He loves us and also so that we could love Him. He made us in His image. God, however, does not change by the way.
The book you referred to is i guess the Bible. The word that God gave us is the eternal word, Jesus Christ. He is the living word that came down from heaven to redeem us from our sinfulness. The Bible is a compilation of books that were made from letters written by men who were inspired by the Holy Spirit.
The Bible didn't come to us with chapters and verses written in it. That was done by monks who thought it would be easier to segment the letters like that in order to properly make copies of them with the printing press, which at that time was new, very tedious and expensive.
So I guess if you believe in the Word, with your whole heart, mind and soul, you do truly accept Jesus Christ, who IS the Word Made Flesh.
The only sin that is unpardonable is the sin against the Holy Spirit.
Which is total rejection of the mercy, love and forgiveness of God.
Since you are a believer, I think that you are on the path of righteousness. God bless you.

I grew up in Australia during the 70s and 80s. I was brought up by Christian parents, went to Church as a child, went to a Christian secondary school and studied with Christians at university.
During that entire time, I NEVER encountered a Christian who doubted the scientific truth of evolution. If anybody had suggested that the Genesis account was historically and scientifically literally true they would have been regarded as a moron who was incapable of reading mythology to reveal the truths within.
I'm a newcomer to Answers, and I have to admit I'm experiencing culture shock.
I'm an atheist now, for reasons largely unrelated to biological theory, but some of my favourite people are Christians. What on earth is going on with so many of Answers' correspondents?

If this is the same question I answered before I didn't mean believing in evolution would cancel your salvation. I only meant that you should believe in the creation along with everything else in the Bible. I don't think it's that big of a deal to God though.

You cannot "believe the entire book" and believe you have to "believe the entire book to be saved" at the same time. Those who wrote that are contradicting themselves.
Your opening paragraph is all you need. However, don't only recognize or believe that Jesus is the Risen Lord and love Him. Put your trust in Him and follow Him also.
I don't think He cares so much about evolution or He would have said, "believe in the creation story and you'll have eternal life." He only cares about you and wants you to follow Him.

The only unfor giveable sin would not allowing the Holy Spirit to work in your life and bring you to Christ.
Mathew 12:31-32 Therefor I say unto you, every sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men; but blasphemy against the Holy Spirit shall not be forgiven. And who ever shall speak a word against the Son of man; it shall be forgiven him, but who ever shall speak against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, nor that which is to come.
So rejecting or calling the Holy Spirit false will never be forgiven and that is the only thing that can't be forgiven, Even talking against Christ Himself is forgivable.
