coz antibiotics causes cats to lose their appetite right? i dont know what to do,he can urinate now although his urine still has traces of blood (i think its caused by the scars when he was cathetherized) he still doesnt want to eat although he drinks lots of water,he has become really thin in a span of 1 week..and is really lethargic..if he keeps on doing this i dont think hell survive on water alone..what can i do,shall i wait for his appetite to come back or will i force feed him?is this even normal for a cat under medication for a week now?

well hours after i 1st posted this question, we took our cat to the vet,he was given dextrose and the vet didnt recommend any special diet for him since he still wont eat.he just told me to never feed him cat food again.he just prescribed a bunch of strong medicines and told us that was his last resort :( and said the chances are 50/50.. :( so if any one who happens to be reading this and has been through the same situation, feel free to share what happened to your pet..my cat just wont eat! hope the medicines will save him and help him regain his appetite...hes not really in good condition now...if you have any "tips" feel free to share it also..

Listen to me closely if your cat truely hasn't eating in a week
TAKE HIM TO THE VET IMMEDIATELY!!!
Cats have to eat...they can develop something called fatty lipidosis or fatty liver disease. It can be fatal. Hopefully your cat isn't in liver failure.
Did your vet change the cats diet? Are you on a urinary tract diet now?
If money is an issue get the smelliest stinkiest cat food that you can find, warm it up in the microwave for a few seconds and see if he will eat that. Otherwise go to the VET..

NO this is not normal. A cat that isn't eating is a sick kitty. You must take him back to the vet ASAP to see what is going on.
You can't wait any longer for his appetite to return...it should have already done so. Yes you can try to force feed him, although he should still see the vet. Whatever he will eat...baby food, fancy feast, boiled chicken, it doesn't matter. Get that boy to eat something.
He may still have crystals in his bladder, he may have an infection that is persisting despite antibiotics, he may have developed kidney problems, etc. Only the vet can determine the problem. I know that a blocked kitty is an expensive one, but for his life...he needs to see the doctor again.

Added after your last comment:

I am so sorry! Did the doctor do a urinalysis? Draw blood for testing? Anything? I confess that I work at a specialty clinic--internal medicine--so I am used to seeing more diagnostics used, including bloodwork and ultrasound. Of course these things are more expensive than routine care.
If there is a specialist in the area, or even an emergency clinic, or if you could get a second opinion, there may be a slim chance left. There are other things that could be going on, like I mentioned--kidney damage, or even cancer--we do see transitional cell carcinoma in both cats and dogs, which is a malignant cancer often found in the lining of the bladder--hopefully your kitty doesn't have that, of course. Even if there's nothing you can do sometimes it helps to have an answer. It is also possible to put in a feeding tube, either directly into the stomach or into the esophagus, so that liquid food can be put directly into the cat (once they start to feel better, they begin eating on their own--this is a very common procedure at our clinic for cases of hepatic lipidosis, or fatty liver disease). Or, he could be hospitalized and given total parenteral nutrition, meaning that he would have a catheter in a vein through which fluids, dextrose, fats, and amino acids would be given to provide his nutrition until he is healthy enough to start eating on his own. Of course there is no guarantee that any of these things would work, and they are not cheap, but I just wanted to let you know that there are options out there. I will pray for a miracle for the both of you.

If you can't get to a vet this minute....try buying some chicken baby food. Check the label for onion powder.....cats should not have this. Find the brand that doesn't have onion powder and buy chicken or turkey. Get him to a vet immediately. If you think you have something in your home that the cat would like or has shown interest in in the past try force feeding this. Good luck

Some antibiotics can cause a cat to lose his appetite. But for a week is not normal. Take him to the vet: He has a problem. The vet might be able to offer suggestions for a soft, high-calorie food.

Good luck!

My mom's cat just went through the same exact thing. The cat had some kind of surgery 2 weeks ago was sent home with some antibiotics and valium and was told to eat some catfood that cost about $50 I think it is called S/D, the cat would not eat that at all. He was trying to eat twigs, pieces of lint anything but that food, then he just started not wanting to eat at all. We took the cat "Gus" (is his name) to the vet on New Years eve because he wasn't able to pee. For almost a full day before we took him he would just go in and out of the cat litter, my Mom would go check right then for any clumps of pee but there was nothing. we thought that it had to be pretty serious........they said he was fine, his bladder was empty, just continue with the medicine. Then take Gus to his regular vet on Tuesday. ........ Well Gus couldn't hang on. She had to put him to sleep New Years morning.
You said that your cat is a male cat, before all of this did you feed him dry food only? I only ask because that's what the vet asked my mom, he said that that's what happens to male cats that eat dry food.
Its just sad, I'm sorry you have to go through this, my heart goes out to you and you kitty.
Good Luck

I agree TAKE TO VET IMMEDIATELY if it really hasn't eaten a thing in a week !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is serious
The best urinary tract prevention food once you have got him eating again is Hills prescription diet Feline c/d as it is coated in chicken fat and the cats LOVE it, I am a vet nurse and have never seen a cat reject it once they are healthy.
