Here is the deal. I know that it would suck if your grandson got beat up while he was in jail. What you need to do is find out if it was the guards that did it to him, or the other inmates in the cell with him.
Second of all, I work in a jail and I see this kind of stuff on a daily basis. The fighting is not what I am talking about. What I am talking about is inmates who don't like the cell they are in, or know someone in a different cell. They want to be moved so they try to say that thier life is in danger or they are scared the other inmates are going to beat them up, or even a lot of times they say that someone did beat them up. They think that they are going to be moved if something like that is about to happen.
He is in jail and it is not the Hilton. He can't just switch rooms if he pleases. I can tell you right now if he was beaten up and the guards did see it or know about it, then they would have moved him. They either would have moved him to another cell or into a separation cell where he would be alone. That is the truth in the matter.
It is the guards job to provide safety from the inmates, even from other inmates. However, another part of thier job is to dig through all the bullcrap that the inmates through at them. You can not believe anything that comes out of the mouth of someone in jail. They have nothing to lose in there if they lie to a guard, so they will do it just to see if they can get moved or whatever it is they want done. They will even call home or write home and tell family about it to get the family riled up and call up to the jail or someone else higher up to do something about it. There is nothing you can do about it nor anyone else.
I am not accusing your grandson of lying, I am just trying to tell you how it is in jail.
In the case the he was beaten up by other inmates, county jail is not like it is in prison. You don't get into a fight with someone or get your butt kicked unless you straight up disrespect someone or run your mouth to the wrong person. So tell him if he wants out of that cell to make sure that he gets into a fight when one of the guards are standing right there and make sure he doesn't stop fighting till the guards pull him off the other person.
Good luck to you and him.

The sheriff of the county is the head over the jail, there is no one over him.
You can hire an attorney to investigate

He needs to make a formal request to be put in protective custody. Be fore-warned though, going into protective custody has it's own perils. You can be branded a snitch or a homo-sexual. Unless your grandson is willing to sit out his time alone, he should try to work out the problem.

It's not right that he's being beaten, but the worse things are for him in lock-up, the less he'll want to go back.

What a shame. I'm sure the owner of the property he broke into feels awful for him.

Did you ask him who he insulted before they beat his young arrogant butt down?
Let him deal with it because its a different world in there. Put him in Punk City (protective custody) and he'll do his time an outcast. Time for your grandbaby to man up, do his time and move on.

he is getting what he deserves. I am sure he wont serve out his entire sentece as long as he behaves and that is not right. he should know about the dangers of prison and if he had half a brain he wouldnt be out robbing and stealing. "love thy neighbor" does that ring a bell to you??? he is getting his love right now
