I think you don't like it probably is because it's something new for Chinese,in China they never class ppl by the skin color, they don't even have the concept of it or something like ''race''racism'..but that does exist in some places of the world, you're gonna get used to it...yellow is just relative ,as Caucasians appear to be pink, but it's white-pink

I agree with you I have seen enough East Asian (Chinese Guys hehe) to know that they are not yellow. Even the Chinese people I have met some say they are yellow I say no your not. I think this is because they have heard this term and just beleive that. I really don't know if that's truly how they feel. Everyone has different colors so you can't really class a group as a certain color because some people have tans and some people like to cover up. I think from what I have seen I would say most are a light brown. When you think about it in a way we are all not like the colors that have been given to us but it's in our mind and it's a habit but I don't refer to colors I refer to someone by their name. Also Chinese got cool hair, sleek and smooth.

I have been to china. This is what the Chinese people call themselves. So I think it comes from their language. At first I though chinese people just were copying it from the west.

Then I went to the Shanghai museum of natural history. In the section about evolution it had models of all the races. In Chinese it had caucasion labled: Bairen this means white people

Under the Asians and American Indians it had Huangren : yellow people

and under the African model it had Heiren: black people.

That is just the way they talk in their own language. So don't really know why it should be a problem.

My two youngest daughters were born just outside of Zunyi City, Guizhou, PR China... their skin is very light olive/tan, but their scalps are dark yellow. It's just a poor generalization that began who knows how long ago. I'd rather someone call my daughters yellow skinned than a Rice ****er or Buddha Head.

I think Asian people have the most beautiful skin, the dark shades as well as the lighter shades that do have some yellow tint to it. Be proud you're "yellow"... sure beats being plain ole "white."

In France we say yellow to describe people coming from mainly south-east Asia : China, Viet-Nam, Japan, Korea.

It is just a way to classify people : black, white and "beur" for Arabs ( can't translate it in English ).

For being half Chinese, I understand how you feel as I also hate hearing this. But it is true that to classify Chinese people, you can't say white or black also more and more Chinese woman just like Japanese woman by more and more cosmetic products which are supposed to whiten the skins as they don't like the color they have.

Well, maybe not that yellow, but yeah, compared to people like Americans or Canadians, we are quite yellow. It's like they're white people. I have given thought to another idea, I mean you must have heard of the river 黃河? That may be a reason I guess, they say it's our river like the Nile is Egpyt's river. Like the cradle of the whole nation? But I believe that it is because our skin is a bit yellowish compared with the North Americans or Euroopeans. There's nothing to be ashamed of. I know many people like this term actually and say it with pride. So be proud of your own heritage!

I've been teaching English in China for a couple years now, and all my students call themselves yellow. It was quite shoking to me at first, but they are the ones that use it. They consider a person to be healthy if their skin has that yellowish (?) tinge to it. Some are quite proud of it, although, today many young girls use make up, and stay out of the sun, to keep their skin as light as possible.

I'm in China right now and my Chinese colleague here has a yellow tinge to his skin. He don't give a rats butt if he's called yellowed skinned, it's just fact.

I think Chinese are very pretty people. People who say that they are yellow, they must come from the dark dark ages.
