The god of the Bible is a petulant, childish, sadistic, tyrant.
Aren't you glad he is imaginary.

God gives us a freewill because He is not a dictator. Dictators control and God calls control a sin of witchcraft. He wants us to make a choice, and hopefully that choice would be HIM. God died for all men, but not all men will receive Him.
Temptation comes from Satan, from the evil desires around and in us. God came to redeem us from that life, however, there are still struggles because of the evil that is so prevelant in this world. If you've given your life to Jesus one day you will be free from ALL temptations---what a glorious day that will be.
Just remember God says He is looking for faithful servants-not perfect. Although our sin does hurt Him tremendously He is so merciful to forgive...so when we hurt Him it is important to get it straight with Him, get up and go on---keep asking for His help. He cares about every temptation we face! God bless :)!

On an intellectual level, I always believed that the answer to why we have free will is found in the first of the ten commandments "thou shalt have no other God..." which says that God is a powerful and jealous God, that is worthy to be praised.
And freewill is simply a manifestation of this omniscience. In human terms a comparison might be found in - if God created man in His image - people are basically jealous and don't want to share their space in relationships with anyone else (why cheating is considered a bad thing) and also they don't really enjoy taking prisoners in relationships (generally).
So when someone openly accepts us for who and what we are it is essential to a healthy relationship, hence God being the creator of men, and fashioning them after His image and likeness, would also desire that His creation see Him as worthy of having a relationship with, and is grieved to be shunned (made to be less important) by those He loves.

The reason why God gives us free Will is because we are created in his image, he don't want to creat bunch of machines that does everything you told him to. He stated in Genesis that he created us in his image.
The temptation and the sin is not some thing that humans have to worry too much about because he already provided a solution so that you will not be accountable for what you already did. The solution is Jesus Christ already paid for you. "For God so loved you that he gave his only son and if you believe in him you shall not perish or you will not be punished but have eternal life"
got it?

God is like a parent who is watching their child grow. There are things in the world that he cant stop. Temptation is there... he doesn't create it. Human kind has grown and changed just like a child grows from infancy to adult hood. A parent has no choice in most cases but to sit by the sidelines and watch their child make their way through life based on what they choose to do. The thing is about parents, most of the time they are there to catch you when you fall just like the way sometimes God catches you when you fall. Sometimes he lets us pick ourselves up and brush the dirt off and set off running again, but he is always there loving us no matter what we choose.

God gives us free will to choose, there is temptation because of Adam and Eve but to fall into sin is clearly our choice.

Because he loves us and he wants us to be able to appreciate his love and to love him back if we are so inclined. If he MADE us love him it wouldn't mean much...but if we CHOOSE to love him it means a great deal. The temptation is here because of Satan. Had Adam and Eve not chosen to be disobedient to God, we'd all be perfect humans. Since they did, we're imperfect and Satan is basically taunting God by saying that humans only worship him out of selfishness for the things we can get if we do. By showing our love for God by willingly being obedient to him, we prove Satan to be the liar that he is and we make God's heart rejoice. Even if we fall to temptation, God's happy with us if we're repentant. He doesn't expect more of us than we're capable of...as the Bible says at Psalm 103:13, 14, he remembers that we're made of dust.

If there was no free will, we would be nothing more than sophisticated wind-up toys. God is preparing a Kingdom for Himself, composed of citizens - sons and daughters, who really love Him for Himself, and are willing to live before Him in faith and love and hope (as it is written, "now these three abide...") forever!.
Temptation is an inevitable part of the preparation process.

He gives us freewill because He wants us to follow Him because we love Him, not because we that's the only thing we can do. As for temptation, that comes from the devil using his free will to try to tempt people.

We should always be conscious to the fact that our life is meant to be used in great and powerful ways by God Almighty. We are the vessel in which God can work through to touch others and minister His Word of encouragement that all will be well. To be used of God, we must be available to the Holy Spirit and be sensitive to the still small voice of His leading. The Lord can do extraordinary things through each of our lives if we only surrender our will and allow the Lord to work through us. Be encouraged to be the vessel in which the Lord can work through to minister His grace and encouragement towards all those in need. (Ephesians 4:29-32) (Isaiah 30:21)
I hope this message ministers to your heart to lead your life purely before the Lord so that He can work through you to enrich and make better the lives of those who are in need around you.

God gave us free will because He didn't want robots. He wants us to love Him on our own. He put the tree in the garden, and told them not to touch it. They made a choice to sin. They had everything else they could want. They wanted more. Just like Satan wanted to overthrow God. We need to read His love letters to us, and follow what He ask us to do.
