An Industrial is a long bar bell that connects two holes peirced on the same levels. It goes normally in the top half of your ear because there is more space for the bar to fit within your ear but the height varies upon where you want it. Search Industrial Bars on any search engine for pictures if you need a visual. The picture link that 3mm5 included is really accurate but mine is more towards the center of my ear than way up in the top corner because I have anothe cartilage above it.

Through the top of your ear to the bottom. A 14g (usually) stainless steel bar connects the two and is closed off by balls that can screw off and on.
