First, Adobe READER is free. But Adobe ACROBAT, which you use to create PDFs, isn't free. If you want to create a PDF from a Publisher document (.pub), PDF Online (http://pdfonline.com/) will do it for free. Use the online version to convert all files you need.

Adobe Acrobat Reader is free, as in any upgrades to it. However the reader can only read PDF documents and cannot create any PDF files, that is how Adobe makes money. Adobe Acrobat is it's main product which is ratherly expensive.

There are a few 'free pdf creators' available, which while none in my experience are great, they don't cost you anything. http://www.google.ca/search?q?=free+pdf+creator

Most of them are converters, which let you print a document from another application (e.g. Microsoft Word) and automatically converts it into a PDF file, rather than out your printer.

Adobe themselves offer such an application online, but only their first 5 PDFs are free. You may want to try it here: http://createpdf.adobe.com/

Adobe Acrobat Reader is free. The reader will not create PDF files, it only lets you view them. The latest version is now Acrobat 8.0.

Adobe Acrobat Standard or Professional is required to author your own PDF files. You can convert virtually any document into a PDF file with the software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, HTML pages, photos, etc.)

be careful. There could be a difference here. Adobe makes 2 products of application: a million) Acrobat (generally stated as acrobat author) 2) Acrobat reader it is difficulty-loose to have one version of acrobat (author) and yet another version of acrobat reader. it is because of the fact they are not the comparable application. you're able to create and study pdf documents, the different can in basic terms study pdf documents. So be sure you distinguish between the two. If what you're speaking approximately is reader and author, i might shop the two put in
