Ok- my parents and many others are always saying that I cannot do things that they could because "it was safer when I was a kid"
Ok-
the murder rate is no higher than 40 years ago.
Cars have gotten SAFER, not more dangerous (seatbelts werent around back then)
yes teen pregnancy is up from back then, but it has gone down for the past 5 years straight.
Drugs and smoking are LESS of a problem. (hippies=druggies)
Rapes, abductions, etc. have not increased, only the media coverage has.

Look at statistics. This is NOT a card that parents sohuld be playing.
What do you think/give some other reasons.

The population, and therefor risks, are up, but it's the SAME PROBABILITY. the number of murders are up, but in proportion to the population, they are way down. It's true for everything else, too.

There were a lot fewer cars,,,and the ones that were here couldn't go nearly as fast.
We never locked the house, nothing was ever missing from it.
Car keys were left in the ignition overnight, car was still there in the morning. If someone needed to use it, we were not awakened, it was all ready for them.
We could go alone to the store at age 6, when it was several blocks away.
Walk home from the movies after dark alone or with a friend, 2 miles away.
Every one looked out for everyone else

It was safer back then. I am only 23 and I think that. You say that murder rates have not changed, but you have to look at who is getting murdered. People are smarter now, and might not be caught. What are the stats for other crimes, violent and non-violent? Reported rapes may not have increased, but what about those that arn't reported? Cars may have gotten safer, but drivers have gotten more dangerous. Teen pregancy, drugs and smoking just proves that people have gotten stupider. I am pretty sure parents didn't huff aerosol cans when they were kids. I am not sure where you got your statistics, but you might want to cite your sources to give your stats more credibility. Oh and I do know "stupider" is not a word, I just liked the way it sounded better then "more stupid". Thanks

Nice try, The population constantly increaes so does youre chances of being involved form a car wreck to a fist figth to being shot. You cannot undo any of it.

I want to protect you should be a response...thats all parents are out there trying to do regardless of what you think is okay....Theres more coverage now because people are more aware of it. It is a big deal because we now know what to watch out for. I think there is more druggies...and hippies werent as bad theres more crackheads that will kill you for a doller then anything else.
