Well, there are several ways, but the best way is to use the official client. It's called BitTorrent (http://www.bittorrent.com/download.html). Cross platform too.

first you need to download a torrent service, i use www.bitlord.com
download the free one
to get music, movies, programs you want one of the best sites is www.torrentspy.com
there you can search for what you want, and when you find one, click download....it will redirect you to your bitlord program where you have to accept the download
the speed of the download depends on how many people are seeding
