Region 'Vintage Champagne' - Year 1973

Rating Drinkability Style
drink now Enormous crop, some well-balanced champagnes produced

Weather Conditions
The summer was hot and dry, but September rains, which caused some rot, marred a potentially great year.

Best Producers
The crop was enormous, and some vintage champagnes were produced, but they were medium-bodied and well balanced. Although most are probably past their best, Krug is still drinking well.

Ok to drink? It isn't going to hurt you, but most likely it won't taste very good. A lot affects how long a wine will last, but how it was stored plays a big part. I'm guessing this wine wasn't stored in a temperature controlled wine cellar.

The champagne recovered from the Titanic was still drinkable, about 100 years old and has been said to be good.

The best way to find out is to simply chill it, open it, smell it, and taste it. If you like it, drink it. If it tastes like vinegar make a salad.

If the Champagne is from a quality producer and has consistently been stored in a cool, dark environment while laying on its side; you should have an enjoyable wine. The worst that can happen is that the wine is sour and you would be able to smell and taste this on the first sip.

It should be. I've heard of champagne kept much longer than that.

The only way to know for sure is to open it. :)
