Chances are the front of your hair is shorter than the back and therefore the weight of your hair length is pulling the scrunched curls down and out. Try using more gel on the back when you dry it or get more layers cut throughout the style. It also helps to scrunch dry with your head upside down until the hair is semi-dry then turn upright to finish...good luck.

have you tried tongs? if you have and that does not work try putting hair spray on the part you are doing then spay again after you have finished.
Alternatively scrunch your hair with styling gel/mouse, if that does not work scrunch your hair normally and use hair spray.
hope this helps!!

Your hair may just be too heavy for it to stay scrunched. I was having problems with curls and my hairsylist suggested getting my hair thinned. She cut out unneccessary stuff without losing length or thinning it out too much.

maybe use more hairspray in the back.. or use more gel and mousse.. it could be heavier and won't hold curl as well.. so it needs more products/help to make it stay scrunched

Have you tried putting more gel/moose in the back..because your hair may be thicker in the back which it needs more treatment . :]
