Well, I would say that the MAN of Christ (He was all God and all man), had grandparents.
Mary's parents were his biological grandparents and his step-dad's parents were his grandparents also.
My husband is not my daughters biological father but we've been married 15 years and his mother (father gone) is DEFINETLY her grandmother!!
My adopted 5 month old twins are MINE!! And their grandparents claim them as their own.
I think we easily see how biology is not what makes us parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters etc.....
You might want to discuss step parents - unconditional love. He probably has many friends in kindergarten that do not have their "orginal set" of parents.

On the Blessed Virgin Mary's side, it was Saint Anne and Saint Joachim. Saint Joseph was the foster father of Jesus.
However, this is what the Holy Bible says about who Joseph's dad was.
"Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary. Of her was born Jesus who is called the Messiah."
- Matthew Chapter 1, verse 16
So biologically, Jesus had no grandparents other than the ones on His mother's side because His Father is God the Father, and Jesus is God the Son, the Word made flesh. Jesus was only biologically related to Mary. You could say that Jesus' foster grandpa on Joseph's side was Jacob.
It is helpful to keep in mind that the gospel of Matthew is written more for a Jewish audience and the genealogy focuses more on Joseph's genealogy. And the gospel of Luke is written more from the Blessed Virgin Mary's perspective.

Tell him the real truth... and this time omit the son of God/virgin birth BS.!
Giving misinformation to young children ought to be your first and biggest NO NO... and in this case it ought to register with you that the responsibility is all on you - it's your own child you're about to educate. Be honest... be decent... be loving... do the right thing.

Well, Jesus's grandmother was Anna on His mother's side and Jacob was Joseph's father. That's the human side.

Tradition has it that Mary's parents were Anna (St Anne, presumably Hannah in Hebrew) and Joachim. Joseph's father was Heli.

The Bible doesn't say much but take him to see "The Nativity Story" I really like the way Mary's parents were portrayed in it, and it is a wonderful movie.
I think it is fine to tell him that his father is Father God, who sent him to us out of love, but he had a earthly father too. (like all of us).

I would say, something to the effect of... Jesus, does not have grandparents, but he does have a dad, God the father. Before I get into this simple chat, I would pray and ask the lord to have his words guide me.

Just make something up. He won't know or care. Make up some names, tell him a little story about them. It's all fiction anyway. If you really cared, you would read the Bible and know the answer.
