No. I'm a Catholic, and it doesn't bother me. There are many different ways of attempting to understand our world and its origins. Creationism and evolution are merely two of them.

I believe, unlike some, that there is a harmony between faith and religion. They both seek truth; however, often times they are entering that truth through different doors. Unfortunately, all too often their followers are critical of anyone using an entrance to truth other than their own.
I believe evolution, or natural selection, is a mechanism by which God organized the earth into the state in which we now enjoy it. Most strict evolutionists will readily admit that there are holes in the evolutionary theory. And assuming that current rates of change and decomposition are the same as they've always been, we are faced with a difficult situation explaining why a relatively dormant period of time may be followed by a prolific sprouting of new species and adaptations.
I do not find the idea of evolution bothersome, but I do feel close-minded, extremist theories on both ends are bothersome and hindering to actual progress.

The idea of Evolution being true bothers me because people talk about coming from monkeys, and the missing link, and cells forming in a puddle struck by lightning, but there is nothing that backs those ideas up. College books talk about how great it is that the cell was able to evolve, but never describe the mechanisms the cell's evolution. That's because there is no answer. The cell is made up of many parts that could not have possibly come together on their own. Many scientists understand this, but are drowned out by others who refuse to admit that they have run into a dead end. They instead cry that one day science will prove their theories (when Christians do this it's called God-in-the-gap; I guess we can call this Darwin-in-the-gap). They try to fit the evidence into what they think the answer is instead of letting the evidence take them to its conclusion.

Again the obsession with Darwin-learn the facts. Evolution was known about for centuries before Darwin. He only put forward a theory regarding biological mechanisms- he is not the focal point of evolution and natural selection is only a very small part of it. Evolution is an indisputable fact that can't logically be challenged-Darwinism is a theory that might be challenged but probably never will be.

No, frankly the idea doesn't bother me at all. I will tell you what does bother me about the idea, it is presented as though it is absolutely true. We all know that it is at best, a theory. There is absolutely no evidence to support it. We send men to the moon but we do not have one ounce of evidence that evolution is true.
Darwin seemed to be a brilliant man in his time and the ideas he put forward were tailored to fit into culture. His idea of how women are not equal to men, won't work today but never the less, it is in fact one of his ideas that was very acceptable in his day. If a change in culture can change his theory's, they are surely not factual at all.
I have heard about evolution for my entire life (age 49) and I have seen amazing advances in technology and changes to culture. In all of that time, science has been like a hamster running on his little wheel in his cage, he runs and runs and runs, and never moves forward.
evolution = theory so lets at least agree that all theory's are no less than equal to one another. Lets stop pretending that the Bible's explanation of our existence should be taken seriously and not dismissed simply because a few others have come up with explanations (theory's).
And if you are going examine scientific evidence, look at that which the Bible presents and give it at least equal consideration.
What about all of that archeology that supports some of he history of events we find in the Bible, will we just dismiss them to help balance the scale in the favor of evolution???
Lets be FAIR!

Evolution is not somebody's hunch or best guess. Evolution happened and is still happening today. It isn't "Darwin's idea". All Darwin did was point to facts that led to questions, the answers to which have combined into modern-day evolutionary science. Darwin did not say humans came from monkeys. Evolutionary science does not say humans came from monkeys. One must ask what you mean by "Does the idea of Evolution bother you?" There's no reason it should "bother" anyone.

No, it does not bother or offend me. I believe it to be true. The Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium equation proves that the definition of evolution exists. It talks about adaptation and allele frequency. It can tell you whether evolution is currently happening in a population. It goes a little bit deeper than just theory because it can be proven by your DNA.

Even if it's proven false, evolution gives me hope. It shows me that no matter what happens, physical, emotional, or mental, I'll always be ready to adapt to it and that my children will be able to overcome the same obsticles with much more ease. Evolution shows me that our species is constantly changing, constantly improving. The problems of the past are as nothing to us now. Evolution is an inspiriation when put under the right light.

There is no reason any of The True Christian Faith need be "bothered" by the Theory of Evolutuon.... what the problem is is in the teaching of it... when it is stated as fact in lowergrades when in fact it is not. This enforces false teaching that is deliberatly slanted to attack God and His Word...in most all cases it is "taught" in lower grades by "teachers" not qualified in that area of scientific study. And is improperly, and in too many cases, deliberatly so, presented.... The Theaory of Evolution is a valid tool for scientific study... but it is not "fact" and never will be...as it can not be proven by any scientific method....
It is the use of a valid Theory to attack the beliefs of those of The True Christian Faith that is the "bother" to those of The Faith.
edit note: btw... Moses did not make up any thing. The Law of God is The Law of God... Moses just recorded it...directly from God...... and another btw....... you are not bound by God's Law... no one not of The Faith is.... you are only bound by man's law and are free to getaway with what you can under that system....... And anohter btw.... The "theory of evolution" is not counter to God's law.... it may indeed lead to greater understanding of God and His Laws. As All science is from God.

While evolution is indeed a theory that can and will be proved The story of creation is nothing more then a story and will never be proved since by your own admission, it was made up.

It obviously bothers some people, as we see from some of the commentary in this forum, even though evolution is now a proven fact. But it certainly doesn't bother me; I am a scientist and must go where the evidence leads.
