Jesus=God. If one first understands this then they can understand everything else about the gospel of Jesus. If one does not understand that Jesus is God in the flesh, then they can't possibly understand anything else about the gospel. The word "gospel" means "good news".

According to Hebrews 11:1, "Faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld." So having faith in Jesus would mean that you've have faith that he was here even though you've never seen him yourself. Since most people when saying "I have faith in Jesus" mean that they have faith in the ransom sacrifice he provided, this would mean having "the assured expectation" of the hope of salvation even though you weren't around when Christ was here, you didn't witness his power over things such as sickness and death through the miracles he performed, and you've not yet beheld salvation.

Hebrews 11:1-3
1Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. 2This is what the ancients were commended for.
3By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.
