Ten or so minutes. You don't want your egg to come to a hard boil. It can crack your egg and give it that icky green color around the yolk. Try this instead
STEP 1: Place the egg in a saucepan.
STEP 2: Run cold water into the saucepan until the water is 1 inch above the egg.
STEP 3: Place the saucepan on a stove and cook over medium heat until the water begins to boil.
STEP 4: Reduce the heat to low.
STEP 5: Simmer for 2 to 3 minutes for soft-boiled eggs or 10 to 15 minutes for hard-boiled eggs.

There is no approximate time. Put the egg in the water at the beginning, once the water is boiling, cover with a tight lid kill the heat, and its done in 10 min. Put the egg in an ice-water bath for easy peeling. Perhaps if you are making hard boiled eggs at extreme altitudes, you may need to adjust it by a minute or two, but stay home and cook your eggs rather than on top of Everest.

To properly boil eggs, you should start with the eggs in cool water on the stove in a pot with a lid. Turn on the heat and wait for the water to boil. After the water has boiled for 2-4 minutes, turn the heat completely off. Do NOT remove the lid. Leave the eggs in the water, on the stove, covered until the water has cooled enough that you can comfortably remove the eggs (without scalding your hands). This will ensure that your eggs are cooked through without being overdone. Eggs are overdone if the yolks are turning greenish (or any color other than yellow) or if the whites are rubbery.

Once the water is boiling, place the uncooked egg into the water carefully, I usually use a ladle to ensure the egg does not break. Then I set the timer for 10 minutes!!! Ten Minutes does the trick to cook your egg until its fully hard boiled to perfection!

once the water is effervescent, turn the nice and cozy temperature all the way down to its lowest putting and go away for 3 and a nil.5 minutes. ideal smooth boiled eggs every time. For troublesome boiled eggs go away to simmer for further or less 8 minutes. Cool them right now and take the shells off.this may help end the darkish rim forming around the yolk.

I usually let them boil 15-20 because I hate to break into a runny or soft yellow.
