My mom sets the pot into the coldest water you can get from the tap. You leave until the peas cool. Then take the peas out with the liquid being careful not to scrape the bottom of the pot when you do it. Then reheat the peas. You can also do this with cooked pinto beans. You cannot taste the scorched peas or beans.

Remove the top layer and throw it out. Take the peas out of the pot and put in another container being careful not to scrape the bottom. This may sound strange but it came from my mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother, put a teaspoon in the peas for about fifteen minutes. Yes an actual teaspoon like the one you eat with. I don't know how it works but I know it always has. The old women in my church do it this way as well.
Good luck

You take them directly to the hospital for medical treatment. Or if it is only a slight scorch run them under the shower.
