The answer is Yes. You can send and receive e-mail from a cruise ship. The cost is quite high. It is anywhere from 50 cents to 75 cents PER MINUTE, although you can buy packages of time that will bring the cost down to around 40 cents per minute.
That is the same if you use the wireless system or their computers.
Much better to wait until you get to a port, go to an internet shop or cafe, and you will pay around $1 PER HOUR.

It should not cost you anything to send/receive email on a cruise ship if you are using something like Yahoo, MSN, AOL. All of these companies use their own servers to hold all the emails so it cost nothing to the cruise ship. Also, I don't know of any cruise ships that actually charge to log onto the Internet.

Cruise lines do in fact charge a per minute fee for internet access. Current fee on Royal Caribbean is 50 cents/minute. They also have wifi on most ships and in-cabin connections-all for a fee. It's not free, and your connection is pretty slow.

most cruises have computers you can use. they actually
have a lounge w/ about 15 computers. it does cost though
and you can do everything, not just email. they have IM too
( well for Carnival at least ). i forget how much. i actually
think its 7 cents / minute. thats for computer use at all.

it epends on the cruise ship. most have wireless connections and some have buisness centers. normally they dont charge but somethies they will charge you a small fee. most of the time you can call the cruise company and they will tell you what the internet situation is
