I was thinking of buying a monster surge protector with a cleaning power of 1 (what does that mean?) and 1680 joules (but another one is 1300 joules. Which is better, or am I overlooking something. I am going to be connecting my xbox 360, my new lcd television, and other things. Any help is appreciated, Thank You.

Bear in mind that these devices are manufactured for sale to the paranoid. Surges and spikes don't happen and if they did the power supply in the device itself will filter them out.

Also, there are 2 types of spike, a spike on one of the lines and a spike in both. The surge protectors on sale protect against the former and not the latter. To protect against the latter, the surge protector weighs in at about 20lb.

Save your money for something more useful.

AC power problems do exist, even if amania_r doesn't believe so. Their belief that only a huge, 20 lb, device can correctly stop the power spikes described is also incorrect. I have personally witnessed a public electric utility dropping one of three phases to a major manufacturing facility and the damage it caused (it killed all of the printers in the building, besides lots of other things). See the links to the Seven Types of Power Problems and Customer Testimonials below...

You should seriously consider a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) for your LCD television and the rest of your entertainment equipment. Most projection TV's require that the fan keep cooling the projection light bulb after the power is turned off. If the power goes out when you have the set on, you'll get to pay for a new bulb (and installation, if you don't know how to do it). The UPS is expensive, but what would it cost to replace your TV and Xbox? A LOT more.

I have a UPS with data line protection on my computer system; my entertainment system will be replaced soon and I plan on adding a UPS then.

APC makes good products, and there are others out there that also make good stuff. Monster probably has a UPS in their line, too.

based on the techniques you presented, you will possibly desire to be great. as long because of the fact the potential conversion is going on someplace else, the multistrip is only performing as extra desirable shops. Be very optimistic, even with the indisputable fact that, that each gadget plugged in is in a position to take the presented voltage/Hz (i.e. the potential is being switched over). additionally, be conscious that maximum of those forms of converters have a constrained potential output, so yours won't have the potential to assist all those calls for. Plugging the surge protector/multistrip into the united kingdom outlet shouldn't harm it even with the indisputable fact that, if that's what you're asking.
