My family is crazy. My mom dresses like a teenager and doesn't like a lot of stuff in the house. Our house is almost empty. We sit on lawn chairs. We only have one tv. me and my sister sleep in sleeping bags, my mom gets to sleep in a bed. We're not poor, my mom has a lot of money. She owns a nice car and a boat. She also made one of the bedrooms into her own closet. She must own like a thousand outfits. I'm 18 and my sister is 17. My mom says she doesn't have to provide for us. If we want to sleep in a bed we have to buy it ourselves. Is this weird?

Sounds more like a Jerry Springer episode!

Your mothers behaviour is the height of selfishness and I'm guessing she's more than a little narcissistic? Legally though, she's in the clear. Do the best you can to get out of there and start your own life. Maybe you and your sister can do it together. Going on Dr. Phil would most likely validate your negative feelings toward your mother, but it doesn't sound like she will be a willing participant in getting her head together and becoming a Mom....why bother?

Don't go on Dr Phil --- your mom does not want to change. But you are 18 --you can get a job and move out. Even a small place you can call your own will get you away from the craziness --and take your sister with you!

Your mother sounds like she has mental problems. Don't take responsibility for her. Check on her and make sure she is safe, but don't let her take over your life.

Yes, it is weird. She does have to provide for you with shelter, clothes, food, etc. You and your sister have to have your own rooms, w/ a bed to sleep on. Since you're 18 however, technically she does not have to provide for you, and from the sounds of it, if push comes to shove, she could emancipate your sister and not be responsible for her either. I would go to a family member, or clergy, or a school counselor, anyone, and ask for help in talking to your mom. It sounds like a very delicate situation. You don't mention your father, maybe you could go to him. If you think it would help going to Dr Phil about it, try it, see if it will help.
Good Luck and God Bless

Sounds like mom is sick. You have the right to sleep in a bed if there is money to buy one. Rather than go on the Dr. Phil show talk with your school counselor.

Are you being serious? Where your dad? Maybe if he's around he could talk to her. If not to to an adult or a counsellor or a psychologist and ask them to help your mom and you sort out some stuff out. Wow your question is actually really hard to answer or maybe it's just cause i'm 16 so i don't really get how your mom would do a thing like that.

I think this is a Maury topic, not Dr Phil. If you want to get on Maury, it might help if you have a paternaty issue,.you don't by chance happen to not know who your father is do you? Your situation is incredibly weird and your mother needs some help. By the way, in many states, not having a bed would be considered child abuse. Sue her and/or call health and human services.

Yes, it is very weird. She is selfish to the core. Is she recently divorced by any chance? If so, she cannot see beyond herself at this point and when she comes to her senses she is going to have a lot of regrets. If this is not the case and she has always been this way, move out and take your sister with you. Good Luck and I hope your mother gets the help she needs!

Why not? If you want to try and solve your personal family problems on television in front of millions of viewers, then go for it. Whavever rocks your boat. Good luck!!! Dr. Phil seems like an amazing person.

Sounds like she is covering up an addiction to spending all of her money on herself. Instead of telling you she has no money, she hopes you will get the things you need by yourself. She is greedy, selfish, and needs help. I wouldn't go on Dr. Phil. I'd expose her along with a video I'd threaten to send to my local newspaper.
