Well unless you want puppies, I really don't see any disadvantages, I talked to my vet that I was working for when I told her I was thinking about spaying my puppy... and she told me that a lot of the things people associate with behavior changes in a female dog after a spay, usually come from the dog getting older or other natural changes like that. Also if you don't spay her and even if you don't get unwanted puppies you don't have to deal with the bleeding and stray dogs hanging around your house every 6 months which is a blessing... as far as your dog running away- my propery isn't fenced in and I have never had problems with her trying to leave spay or no spay. So I think that depends widely on the training you give to your pup. I've heard and I don't know how true it is, but that female dogs can avoid types of cancers if you spay them early in life.

There are so many advantages! They are less likely to run off, they often are well behaved after being spayed. They are more calm and they cant have puppies. I personally would never have a dog without it begin spayed. They are simply calmer and more obedient. There is very little risk in a dog being spayed-- the surgery is veryy safe (a vet has likely performed thousands of spays)

I'll make it short and to the point. There are no disadvantages. It'll only make your dog a better pet and you won't have to worry about adding to the horrible overpopulation of unwanted dogs. Spay and neuter is the way to go.

well a big advantage that i see being a foster in a animal selter is that there are less puppies out there that we have to find homes for because irresponsible people don't keep an eye on their pets when they are let outside and dont' know what to do with the puppies once they come..sure price is a concern, but think of the cost if puppies came along..plus it does tend to calm the dogs down a bit..

Unless the dog is a purebred that you wish to mate with another purebred, you will want to have the dog spay. Contrary to popular belief, having a dog or cat spay or neutered does not make them "lazy" or "fat". If you don't have it done .. when your dog goes into heat, you will have a real mess on your hands. Good Luck with your decision ! :)

Total advantage. There are so many critters in the pound right now waiting to die, 1,000's of them right now!
. They live longer,
have fewer health problems,
DO not stress out with strangers as much either.
they make happier animals,
are not as aggressive, especially if male.
Will not always be on the prowl,
be more willing to stay home.

Walk in to any animal shelter and see all those wonderful creatures that are in need of homes, or they will be killed. We are talking about pure breeds and mutts. That right there is the best advantage of all, preventing more animal deaths.

They don't go into heat so you don't have strange male dogs coming to call, you don't have to worry about ovarian cancer (yes they can get it too), and you don't have to worry about trying to get them into doggy panties and changing pads and cleaning up blood on your carpeting and floors, and most importantly you don't take a chance of any unwanted puppies coming into the world.
