Format always works...

You have to do the deletion manually: deleting the Quicktime related registry entries, including the Installed Application entry (under SOFTWARE) and finally deleting the executable. You should delete any startup folder entry related to it and entry in the RUN registry entry under Microsoft/WIndows.

Good luck!

Find the Quicktime folder and delete it.
Look in registry under HKLM\software for Apple\Quicktime and remove that key. You should be able to reinstall it then.

the version on the site is 7.1.3, shouldn't that be newer?

If you really can't reinstall or uninstall a normal way (control panel or program's uninstall) i would try just deleting the folder and the registry entries.

I'm assuming you went to Add/Remove in the Control Panel?

Sometimes, when you click on a program in Start, Programs, and you click on the appropriate program, there is a right-arrow which offers an uninstall.

Take a look.
