those are great links, but i think cindi's list has helped me more then any other online. its full of places to find databases, most of which are free. but here are the ones i use, so i guess i am just more familiar with them (thus more comfortable with them).

Social Security Death Records
The Mormon Church has the LARGEST data base & best of all they are willing to SHARE!!! Even if your NOT Morman....
Anyone in family sill living?? Collect copies of as many birth/death certs. as possible. The old ones hold a lot more information than the modern day ones....You never know what you will/will not find...

Hey Paul Bearer,
If you want to prove a relationship to Archibald Tait, you need records. Starting with your own birth, your parents, and each generation back to Archie. That is not too many generations, you could probably go 5 or 6 generations to prove that. So, you, your parent, grandparent, great grandparent, 2nd & 3rd great grandparents. Not too hard. Not knowing your surname, or the line from you to Archie, it is difficult to help you. But LDS Family Search does have a Family file including the Wife, and Children of Archie, as listed below. This gets you closer. Now you need to get your records showing which of them you decend from.
