Or with our dish spong/cloth?
Am I being unreasonable? He is british, and has been with me in the states for just over a year. I love him, but he thinks I am being unreal and a nag.
Do other people do this?
Is this sanitary? I love my dog of 7 years but I dont eat out of his plates and I dont want him to eat out of mine, nor does he drink from my glasses. His dog doesnt either. I just do not think its clean.
He could wash them in the bathroom sink, I would be ok with that, and if they had their own sponge. We have a small house and the bathrom is very close to the kitchen corner where their bowls are so its not out of the way to take them to wash in the bathroom.
HELP......I will send him ALL replies.
THANKS

HUNTER2.......NO HE DOES NOT DO THE OTHER CHORES, WE SHARE THEM! BUT YES, WHEN I MAKE THE BED, HE DOES NOT LIKE THE WAY I DO THAT, OR THE LAUNDRY. DO NOT GET ME STARTED ABOUT THE LAUNDRY, I HAVE A LIST OF HOW IT SHOULD BE DONE HANGING IN THE LAUNDRY ROOM, MAYBE I AM OBSESSIVE BUT I HAVE ONE OF THE CLEANEST AND FUNNEST HOUSES YOU COULD COME TO, WE HOST SEVERAL PARTIES A MONTH, AND EVERYONE RAVES ABOUT OUR HOME.
ALSO.....I HATE THE FACT THAT HE DOES NOT COVER LEFT OVER FOOD BEFORE PUTTING IN THE FRIDGE.
AND I LIKE YOUR ANSWER TO MY OTHER QUESTION EARLIER TODAY.
THANKS

Heck no, you're not being unreasonable. I love my dog too. But i wash her bowls outside and not in my kitchen sink or dishwasher. He's gets to stay home and NOT WORK, could he at least oblige by doing you this one little favor? Men.

Yes. Its entirely unreasonable.

First off it is NOT a old wive's tale that dog's mouths are cleaner than human's. They are. They do not carry as many germs in their mouths as we do. So putting their dishes in your sink is not really a large issue as far as hygiene is concerned.

Secondly, perhaps you could compromise with your husband? The kitchen sink is ok but perhaps a 2nd sponge only for the dog's dishes?? That's somewhat more reasonable.

Our family does not look at our animals as "things" or just "pets." They are just members of our family who happen to have 4 legs. When my cat's bowl broken, guess what *gasp* he ate out of a cereal bowl. And when he got a new cat-dish, we washed out his cereal bowl just like a person had eatten out of it. And then WE ate out of it. Its hard to believe but its true.

Animals are clean creatures, by habit. They have to be when living in the wild. The more an animal "smells" or carries disease, the shorter life it will lead b/c it will be easier prey for other animals!!

Let your husband be on this one. Get a 2nd sponge for "dogs" only. But let him wash in the kitchen sink. The dishwasher is an awesome idea b/c it will sterilize your dishes and your dog's, too.

I read your additions and I think you're unreasonable about many chores. (ie: laundry) Making a list of instructions about how to do laundry? That's a bit anal retentive-- its just laundry. If your clothes come out clean, without bleach stains, and they aren't shrunk down 9 sizes...don't complain!

If your husband stays at home and is WILLING to do these chores, let him do them as long as they get done!!

PICK YOUR BATTLES!

You know the old saying goes "If you want something done right...."

If you really object so much, just do it yourself. Insisting that someone perform chores to exacting standards is way too controlling. Sorry, guess I'm blowing this vote. But truly, does he tell you how to make the bed, wash the clothes or vacuum the carpet? Oh, I think I get it you lucky, ducky he's doing all of that too.
Wish I had an inconsiderate poop of a husband over here washing my dogs bowls with my dish sponge..
Gosh can you believe the luck of some people!! ha ha
Be sure you send him all of these replies, like you promised.
Happy New Year.

I agree with the majority here. The whole point to washing your dishes, whether it's in the sink or the dishwasher, is to sterilize them. Dog germs sterilize just the same as people germs.

Oh, and a tip: put your dishrag or sponge into the microwave after doing your dishes. Run it on high power for 60 seconds, and the sponge will be sterilized. Be careful taking it out though; it will be HOT.

(Congratulations on finding a man that helps with the dishes!!)

I personally wash my dogs bowls in the sink and with the same sponge that i use to wash normal dishes. As long as you are using an antibacterial dish soap there wont be any of the dogs germs on the sponge. I also put the dogs bowls in the dishwasher. With all the heat in a dishwasher there arent any germs left once the cycle is done

If it really bothers you, then it's not unreasonable. Personally, I think it's smart to put the dog dishes in the dishwasher because it will sanitize them, but if it skeeves you out, then hey, that's fair.

I don't care about dog dishes being washed in the sink, myself. Although yeah, I don't think I'd like to have the same sponge used on the dog dish as what is used on my dishes. I am not phased by picking dog hairs out of our food, but I don't think I'd deliberately share a sponge with them.
That's pushing it a little.

The dogs mouth is probably cleaner then the majority of the kitchen. Not that this is to say that you are not clean, but a dogs mouth is very clean. If he cleans the bowls regularly, then using the kitchen sink is the best place for it. Trying to wash bowls in the bathroom sink can be difficult depending on the size of the bowl and the size of the sink.

I think it is unreasonable and actually kind of funny considering that the human mouth and saliva contains far more harmful bacteria than the saliva of a dog. For example if you were to lick your wounds they would become infected, when a dog licks their wounds or yours it actually speeds the healing process. On top of that you should be using a disinfectant to clean your sinks weekly anyway since the kitchen sink generally has more bacteria and germs than the average floor of your home because of all the food, saliva and other things that get put into it when you wash the dishes. If you are worried about it you should ask him to wash the sink after with a spray bottle filled with water and bleach. I use bleach to wash my dogs dishes anyway because they are generally very slimy and it helps to keep bacteria from growing in there. I also let my dogs lick the plates and wash them with the rest of the dishes because I use bleach in my dishwater regularly not because of them specifically but because it disinfects everything which is always good.

PS it may also to interest you to know that using a sponge to wash dishes is probably adding more bacteria to your dishes and sink than a dogs dishes do. Sponges are ideal breeding grounds for harmfull bacteria, because they retain water inside much longer than a dishcloth. On that note I use dish cloths because they dry faster and I spray them with bleach/water after use to keep them clean.

I don't think you are being a nag, you just sound a little obsessive compulsive. I understand, I am like that too. My girlfriend would use the same towel after a shower for almost a week. It drove me crazy, I thought it was disgusting. I use a fresh one everyday, which drove her crazy. She said I was being wasteful. We compromised, and use a towel 3 times before putting in the hamper.

The dog dishes will not contaminate the other dishes in the washer, I promise you. I know its hard to change your habits, but you can.

I wash all the dishes, people's and animal's alike in the dishwasher and/or kitchen sink with antibacterial dish washing liquid. Why make more work to do dishes somewhere else? And the dishwasher cleans everything at super hot temperature, I'm sure no germs could possibly be on it.
