I just bought a blender and want to drink smoothie's
but the fruit wont blend unless liquid has been added to the mix.
I have vanilla flavoured milk, which is lovely which i had added to a mix of:
banana and papaya friut,
banana and chinese pear,
which tastes lovley with the vanilla milk except after everythings been blended the smoothie looks more like very frothy, thick curd like, gone off milk than a nice creamish texture.
And three days into seeing this type of smootie is starting to make my stomach turn.
How can i solve this problem, is using water instead of milk the best option or will it lose the taste??

Fresh fruit tend to curd milk easily. You should try natural yoghurt (or a flavoured if you like)instead of milk. Or just use fresh orange as a base. Try adding some frozen fruit or berries in to the mix.. yummy!

I do mine with fruits only and loads of ice cubes (check if you smoothie machine crushes ice). If it is still too thick I add a little bit of water but add only a little at the time until you are happy with the thickness. Bananas are ok but do not add it to every smoothie as it is better to vary. For the creamy texture I sometimes replace bananas by an avocado when I use red fruits (i hate avocados but you cannot taste them at all and they are full of vitamins !!!) and papaya for any exotic fruits. bananas and papayas will definitely make a thick texture. Replace the banana or the papaya by a pineapple or an mango (or both) as they are juicier and it will be even better with ice.
Fruits only taste absolutely great and it is almost a shame to spoil them with milk; you might as well eat a fruity yogurt. If you prefer your smoothies more liquid then choose fruits that are more juicy. Enjoy!

If you don't want the added sugar from using juice (if that's what you choose to do, and you want to make it sweeter, try Stevia rebaudiana. It's an herb from which a white powder is derived that is extremely sweet, and has absolutely no carbohydrates. IT has a long history of use in some countries, & appears to have not given any problems to those culture's health.
I like fruit smoothies, too. I also make punch, using 1 part juice, to 10 parts water, + Stevia powder to taste. Delicious! Great for when you've already had enough fiber for the day, or, if you need to restrict carbs even from fruit. Vegetable juice can be used to make the punch, instead of fruit, too.

One of my fave smoothies (and I'm not a huge dairy fan)- buy a bag of frozen berries (raspberry, blueberry, strawberry etc) available in any supermarket - only semi-defrost - keep it a bit frosty- blitz in the blender- sieve to get rid of pips if you don't have a machine that does this, then add 1 yoghurt fruit or vanilla and a generous slug of apple juice (cranberry would aslo work ) but apple blends in without being overpowering. Result a delish smoothie that is ice cold, not too milky and has a nice texture. If it wasn't so chilly, I might go for one now myself....Oh forgot mango, try mango in smoothies- it's scrummy

Milk is usually used in smoothies. Try blending a banana, some milk, some tinned peaches in fruit juice and strawberries or blueberries. Yum!

Using yogurt would keep the consistency a bit thicker and should eliminate a "frothy" layer. Also you can use fruit juice as part of your liquid. Try starting with frozen fruit, rather than fresh. This will also help keep it a little thicker and less frothy. Good luck.

You can use ice cream to thicken fruit. For example, strawberries or raspberries with ice cream makes a lovely smoothie. I have used pineapple with ice cream and thats nice too. I have tried using water but thats OK with citrus fruits but then you may as well buy juice. Try ice cream....you'll love it.
