If it is granted,I have but one thought. After the now illegal aliens get amnesty, they will no longer wish to work for the low wages and no benefits that they work for now.Who do you think will fill those vacant jobs? New illegal aliens that will cross the unsecured border by the millions and we are back to square one aren't we.? Nothings changed but now the people that get amnesty are now legally entitled to the entitlements they were getting illegally before. Its a never ending cycle.Amnesty didn't work in 1987 and it wont work in 2007.
They do not deserve to be rewarded for criminal acts. The people that come here legally should rise up as one and protest this unfairness......But as Ive said before its not over till the fat lady sings.Dint count on anything yet folks,I think the Demos will hear the peoples voices and act accordingly. If they want a president from their party in 2008.I vote and I get others to vote,so let them hear your voice thru fax,e-mail,writing,calling and in person appeals.I do not intend to stand idle or silent.

I don't think it will be immediate. I'm sure there would still be some process and a period of time in which they'd have to keep their nose clean etc. I just see alot of BS with those who will get caught and fail the oppertunity and then get deported......and each and every one will end up with an Elvira story, or what about my citizen kids etc. Or we've been here 25 years and all that all over again.
I'm sure there are "good" illegals out there.....but there are a whole lot that aren't. So they'd (the gov.) would still have to do some drastic measures and tighten-up loopholes because "amnesty" isn't fixing any of the problems.
I'm worried that decent legal immigrants who have relatives patiently waiting back in their homeland to come here will get booted because these guys don't have a clue how many illegals there are here and they may suddenly wake up and realize we can't handle all these people and they will be denying them citizenship because they won't get rid of the illegal ones here.

Katsulover raises a very good point. The trouble is, legal immigrants do still have things to fear. Firstly, any legal immigrant who desires citizenship must be careful about political involvement. The idea is that you remain apolitical until you get citizenship. Secondly, there is always the fear that you will upset someone, leave the country on vacation and not get back in.
So, us legal immigrants feel very impotent. Unlike illegals we actually have something to lose.
To answer the question, they will jump the line because it is politically expedient to allow them to do so. That is just plain wrong. The middle classes are being squeezed in the USA and it is time to develop a political philosophy which defends Working America from 21st century Robber Barons as well as those (non)-workers happy to sponge off the rest of us.

I agree. Granting amnesty, I believe, undermines the millions who took the time to be formally recognized. It undermines the people who support the legal system, and who recognize the need to follow the rules. What about all the people who waited in line and stayed up nightly studying diligently to become an American citizen. You can't bypass the law just because people feel sorry for you. It is illegal, and undermines legal immigrants and our American legal system. No one is guaranteed anything in America, it is based on self-determination. I could care less that some illegal has a crappy job. He assumed the risk the second he crosses our border. No one is guaranteed anything.

AS far as I'm concerned I do not think anyone that is from what we call turtle island is ill eagle a lot of people seem to forget that our ancestry goes back way further than European oriental Africans. Us north American natives did not gain citizenship in our own motherland til the 1920s .

you could "think of" something you opt for yet that doesn't make it real. i will think of I even have fluffy pink fur and wings, yet when I step out of the third floor window and attempt to fly, i will locate out i will't in a 2d. God owes us not something. He has given us each thing we've and are: existence, a physique, a planet to proceed to exist...and, btw, the potential of understanding Him in my view with the aid of Jesus Christ. We do our ultimate because of the fact we opt for to, not for any eventual "reward." once you're doing stuff for applause, reward, or acceptance, that's not altruistic. that is horse-paying for and merchandising.

Big business wants them here, and liberals have this thing about them being only good hard working people. But I will always say never, we do not and will not reward law breakers.

Amnesty seems to be handed out every 10 years or so. I'm with you. Those who follow the rules should be rewarded, not penalized for those who break the law.
