Hi people!

I really hope that this year my skin gets back to how it used to be - which was clear!

I feel really bad at the moment and I am sick of my adult acne that suddenly appeared since summer. And just before xmas, my face was red raw, sore and itchy. The doc said I had a infection on my face and gave me four strong anti-biotics for six days. Things calmed down after the last day of taking them but two days later it came back - so I rang up for a repeat perscription and I am back on them for another six days again.

Although all the redness hasnt gone, but it has clamed down. I am wondering what causes facial infections? I use a gentle soap on my skin and I dont use make-up. Has anyone has any ideas?

It sounds like rosacea. Have you been to see a dermatologist or just your family doctor? http://www.acne-scar-removal-treatments.com/rosacea.html

My mom is a derm Pa and recommends Vanicream (no fragrances or harsh chemicals) If nothing is working and you are seeing a dermatologist I would recommend seeing a different one.

Some people that have ache problems can be because they are alergic to some kind of food like oil, chocolate, cheese, so many things. Doctors do not always let you know or test for every possible way for whatever the case may be. Try Dove soap it is usually good. Aveeno stress facial soaps is great too, but one soap of aveeno can cost you 3 to 4 dollars depending what state you live in. There is this site that talks about different kind of facial infections including dental issues, maybe you would like to take a look at it and see if something relates to your situation. It is: http://www.dentalplans.com/articles/Fighting%20Facial%20Infections/ Copy and paste in your browser. Later.

Sometimes the antibiotics prescribed do not work for an infection - if the doc takes a swab and sends it to the lab they will send back their findings with a list of antibiotics to which the infection is resistant (will not have effect) and a list to which it is sensitive (will have effect and hopefully cure). If infection is dry swab may not pick up the bugs causing it. I wondered if you have an allergy, and altho' acne rosacea tends to show mainly on cheeks, forehead or chin it is also a possibility if 30+ (exacerbated by alcohol not sure if also coffee++ and spicy foods++) - it can also be treated with meds - good luck and drink gallons of water in the meantime - great for cleaning out system incl skin

I had a similar situation. Thought it was an allergic reaction to hair dye.
Turns out after about three trips to the doctor and antibiotics...I have "contact dermatitis" from my well water. I used over-the-counter cortizone cream and it was going within 4 days.

I tested the water hardness. It's over 425 ppm. Normal water is 50 ppm.

So now I have a water softener. It was the iron.

The weather has a lot to do with it - you have to protect your skin by applying a sensitive skin cream or lotion after cleansing (with no fragrance) and has a high UV factor before you go out. Bare skin exposed to the elements (sun, pollution, cold, etc) only increases your chances for infection.

even if the soap is gentle, if its still soap it will take off the protective acid mantle of the skin which is the layer that keeps out the harmful environmental elements. try using a medicated gentle face wash, thats alcohol free and see if that helps! xxx

although the soap is mild it may be the culprit. are you on any new meds or a birth control method that could be causing the reaction. i would recommend talking to a dermatologist who may be able to tell you whats going on and what you can do to prevent and take care of your problem. good luck

Sounds like an allergic reaction to something. Anything you ate last time and this time ? Or any changes to the environment like paint, pets (cats, dogs), pollen, central heating.

good luck
