It's about judgement, both your and theirs. Teens can judge better if they are getting too hot, too cold etc and teens are less likely to be abducted, etc.

However, If I lived in some cities, neither would stay.

I'd say about 12-13 is the first time I'd consider it. I don't think either of mine ever did even that early though.

Little kids don't know what to do if it gets too hot or what to do if a person came to the car and asked to let them in or busted through the door and drove off and they would'nt know how to defend themselves.

Teenagers though have enough knowledge to know what to do in most of those conditions. I'm not saying that all teens wouldn't let a person in the car but in areas of sufficating in the car because there is not enough oxygen, or it getting to hot, or having more strength than little kids to defend themselves, most teenagers are responsible enough to stay in a car alone.

Little kids are just not responsible enough to stay alone in a car by themselves

A child is in danger if they are left alone in a car. Some one could walk by and kidnap them. Or they could get too hot or too cold. If they are in trouble, they are less able to take care of themselves. Teenagers are almost adults and are better capable of getting out of bad situations.

Also, if you leave a baby alone in a car, and it gets too hot or too cold, the baby could die. Babies and very young children must not be left alone anywhere, car or house or outside. Some one must always be with them.

Well, younger kids don't know enough to get themselves out of trouble.

If the car caught fire, or if the sun was too hot, a teenager would do something about it. A 3-year-old might not.

If a stranger came up and told them "your mom said come with me", a 3yo or 6yo might do what a teenager wouldn't, and follow them.

You wouldn't let a 3yo cross the street by himself or ride his tricycle on the busy road, either. With age comes common sense, even for teenagers.

young children are vulnerable and will trust most any adult. If an adult comes up to them and says "your mommmy said to come with me" or offers them candy or something, children are vulnerable and there is no guarantee that they would be able to see through it. Young children don't have enough sense, they could overheat in the car or they could get out of the car and run through the parking lot-get run over or lost or kidnapped. Soo not a good idea to leave a child in a car alone.

think about that again.

A baby can't walk or talk or open a door or a window. but a teenager can do all of that and knows when its to hot to sit in the car with the windows up I dont trust anybody so i would make my kids come in the store with me no matter whare or how long i am going to be

A teenager can get out if its too hot in the car.

Teenagers are more able to fend for themselves and run/call help/ fight back if anything happens to them.

It is easier to pick up and walk off with the little ones. Have you tried to lift your teenager lately?

Why would you leave a teenager in the car? They are perfectly able to get up and come in the store with you. Its the little ones that parents dont want to deal with cuz they misbehave.

Because younger children are a lot more helpless and know less about the world than a teenager. Teenagers can defend themselves more and are developmentaly able to handle being alone.

You should be albe to trust your teen with the car. They also know a lot more than younger kids about saftey. A young kid wouldn't know that they need to lock the doors if you forget. A teenager does.
