what is it specificially that "looks" cute?
In other words, what is it that shy people do to make people say this?

Shyness is "cute" because it has something of a child-like (not "childish") innocence to it, and most people associate "cute" with innocent children.
It's most likely a compliment.
personally, I love cute, shy girls.

Well, all I can tell you is that there are some guys that like shy girls and some that don't. So if you have someone telling you that you look cute when your shy than maybe it's because either they really like shy girls or because they just aren't used to seeing you shy. From my own experience though, I think guys think when your shy it makes you look a little helpless and fragile and most guys enjoy feeling like the owner of the relationship. I think people don't know what else to say so they say something utterly daft.
There is no other word some people have in their mental dictionary to compliment you so 'cute' is the first thing that pops into their head.
Some men, for example, use the word 'cute' to mean 'hot'. I don't get it.
But I think for the most part it's just a lack of vocabulary.

No. seems have not something to do with how social a individual is. a number of my maximum impressive buddies are extremely shy, whilst many of the fewer ideal ones are large in social circumstances.

When people are shy, their face turns red and it looks like they are calm well their face expression is cute. The redness and their quiteness makes em look cute. Their face expression basically.

I dont's know. People define me as shy, but it's not that I'm shy, it's just that I have nothing to say to them. I don't just walk up to people and say Hi whats up! Well anyways I have no clue.

Shy people just have a mysterious factor that attracts people to them and makes them notice there features therefor they would say somthing like that.

alot of people think that the shyness it self is cute...hehe that actually what made my boyfriend talk to me in the first place, so it can be a good thing to be shy.

Being shy and modest in today's society is refreshing considering so many are rude,loud and brash. It can be a endearing personality quirk.
