My dog is almost 3 years old. He does'nt go outside much, because he does'nt like the cold. Is there anything I can do to make him less sad when we leave, besides get another dog or cat.

first off get him a crate- they like the feeling of security, put a nice blanket in there... also buy a few little toys or stuffed animals for him... and when I leave mine alone, I turn the TV on Quietly on cartoons, it makes them feel they are not alone!

Crating is a great idea - and they really do love them if not left alone for hours and hours all the time. They are safe (can't chew electrical cords or plants). They usually sleep all the time you are out anyway - and when you come home, make that a wonderful together time.. One of my dogs will sit by the door of our family room (after we've been playing or watching TV for awhile) and when I open it (at a certtain time of night) she will dash into the room where her crate is a run into it and wag her tail so fast. It's like she's saying "nighty nite - this is my special place"

Another dog would help keep him company. They get very lonesome as you well know how they are lap dogs. Take him with you when possible as far as trips, or just leave the tv on or music, seems to help ours.

there are some great toys, a little kong with peanut butter in it makes my dogs happy. There is even a stuffed animal toy that you can record a message on so when he plays with it the toy tells him in your voice he's a "good boy"

leave him inside and teach him to not make a mess. leave all the room doors closed so it wont poop there or leave it inside the garage.
