anyone know how to put it back in, or if it makes any difference to the performance. It's not totally detached, just leaves a gap.

The ferrule is largely decorative and can be re-attached with a bit of epoxy. Don't use other types of adhesives as they could damage the ferrule, the finish of the shaft or even the finish of the head.

If you're not comfortable doing the repair, you can take the club to a golf shop (Golfsmith, etc.) and have them either do the repair described above or pull the shaft and install a new ferrule.

Hello Matt

Your talking about the ferrul, they often come loose after time. By and large they are there just to dress up the club and are attached with a bit of epoxy.

They are not needed so just reglue it or cut it off, if you ever have the clubs reshafted then you can have it replaced.
