It's pretty depressing, but if you hang araound for a while you atart to notice the same names coming up again and again; there's a small minority of people who basicly spend all day online spewing out crap that they can't let out anywhere else.
The sad thing is that they give people the impression that everyone here is like that.
Someone mentioned "Flakey Guardian readers" that never see the reality of "non-White" areas. I live in the the most mixed area of Manchester (in reality there are no non-White areas), and things here are pretty normal, except that most of the shops were open on Christmas Day, which is fine by me!
I don't usually report people, what's the point, but I did just now, on the languages forum someone from Iran offered to give help to anyone learning Farsi, straightaway she had a reply about how "we" will invade Iran as soon as they get the bomb. I found that really unwarranted and unkind.
I do read the Guardian among others, I find the news more accurate than the Mail/Express/Sun, am I wrong there?
The ranting racists are a minority, it's just that the rest of us haven't got time to continually answer their rubbish. But if someone's got a serious question, I'll do my best to give a reasoned opinion.

What is never pointed out in this argument is that approximately 1 million Brits permanently leave the country every year. I for one would live nowhere else in the world but London because it is so cosmopolitan. Yes there is racism in this country, especially when you leave the comfort of the inner city but i have been to Paris,Barcelona and Frankfurt where people stare at you in the street if you are black. This also happened to my family when we were on holiday in Cornwall last Summer.
However to answer the question, most prejudice comes from fear. Those same people who abuse foreigners are probably the 1st to order a Chinese or Indian takeaway! I used to work with someone who didn't like 'darkies' (his words not mine) but i was OK!! I could never understand his philosophy and i think it is better for me not to try.

The faceless and non-dialogue form of Y Q & A conversations allows people to voice the worst of their prejudices without fear of a reaction.
I don't think these same people speak the same way in other circumstances. Similarly, I am tempted to say secret stuff about sexual stuff on here that I will never say in public. Living in a world of nation-states that are in constant economic and sporting competition seems to have turned us all on each other, which is a real shame, you are right.
I think the huge majority of people who say racist stuff on Y Q & A have some international friends, but do not consider those people to be part of the 'different/other' community that they are so sceptical and critical of. If they had friends from all communities (and better understanding), they wouldn't be this nasty on here.

Glad you could join us ...now we have one more!
This sort of stuff happens with humans. Humans aren't quite the high animals we all want to think of ourselves as being.
If someone steps on your toe or looks sideways at your wife, humans get attitudes on them. Easiest thing to do is blame it on they way the other guy looks.
The wonderful thing abou America is ...we got som darned many people to be mad at because they are racially different than we are. THATS part of the American Dream.
Course the law doesn't allow you to do anyting unsortly about it. That's another part of what is good about America.
You can hate em' but you better not hurt em'.
I'm joking a bit here ...but not entirely.

People come on!
There are idiots and small minded ignorants all over the world. It is all too easy to label a person because of their colour/culture/ethnic origin. A high percentage of the population of the world seem to be a-holes but there are a lot of really great people around also. It's not about race, it's about people.

What you have encountered is a small amount of raciest turds. Wherever you are you will find them. They are brave on here, end of a phone line etc. Confront them on here and you get a violation. Most are just silly schoolkids, Odd one is a bnp member, you can spot him cause he can't spell. Desperate to get his point across. Don't worry about it. That's what they want you to do. I worked in London a few years ago, east enders are the most raciest people on planet. Am Scots so god knows what your going through. 99% of us honestly don't mind where you come from :) Don't judge a country by it's morons. Happy new year

The problem is that more foreigners are being allowed into the country, due to Europe, than ever before and they do not have to leave. That is the problem, we are losing our country a little at a time by the design of the Brussels junta and you expect the old tolerance to survive. I have nothing against individual people but the present mass immigration into a counrty which should have the full sign up is reduculuous.

No, it is just that all the BNP supporters flock here, because it's the only place anyone will actually take them seriously. Don't worry about it, they are full of it and would never treat anyone like this in real life. They are mostly pathetic cowards hiding behind a screen. Take care : )

Sure there is some racism here. I've received death threats by e-mail, have been called lazy and racist, and been told to go home to Europe just for being white. If you are against racism then you should be against all forms of it, not just remarks made to or about foreigners. They can be quite racist too.

If I had a quid for every time I'd been reported by these people, I'd be happily saving towards early retirement. Hopefully they will get bored and go away.
