When you start thinking about atheism and theism it soon appears there are many more positions to take.

A deist is a person who believes in a sort of impersonal, universal motivating spirit kind of a God instead of a personal big guy in the sky kind of a God.
Examples of this style are Animism, Stoicism, Taoism, some Buddhism.
People who are representative might be Spinoza, Einstein, Marcus Aurelius.

If you google up ignosticism instead of agnosticism you get another neat position to argue from.

Deism is a religious philosophy and movement that became prominent in England, France, and the United States in the 17th and 18th centuries. Deists typically reject supernatural events (prophecy, miracles) and divine revelation prominent in organized religion, along with holy books and revealed religions that assert the existence of such things. Instead, deists hold that correct religious beliefs must be founded on human reason and observed features of the natural world, and that these sources reveal the existence of one God or supreme being.

A deist believes in God. It is the opposite word to atheist. Deos and theos mean the same thing, they are the same root.

Deists believe that the proverbial Watchmaker exists, but once completed the Watch, walked away, and has no further involvement with the Watch.

Someone who believes that there was a god that created the universe, but doesn't think that we can tell much about him.

Thomas Jefferson is a great example. Go look up some of his quotes on religion and take them as a whole. You will get the idea. He believed in a god, but wasn't a Christian.

The belief that there is a god, a supreme being who created the earth then left it to exist on its own and did not leave behind any supernatural revelation of his powers (no bible, no prophets, no signs).
