Close the sliding jaw so that it fits snugly on the object to be measured.
What I have is - "Cierra la mandíbula deslizante para que cabe cómodamente sobre el objeto que se medirá."
Am I correct?

Close=Cierre (with e)

the sliding jaw =la -garganta de polea, mandíbula, mordaza- deslizante.

so that it fits snugly=para que calze/quepa precisamente
on the object to be measured= en el objeto a medirse.
