I have downloaded internet explorer twice now in the last month because I keep getting an update for windows. The problem I'm having is that each time I've downloaded it my system has completely slowed down, {not that it's slow enough on it's own} am I missing something? My computer is about 5 years old, and has be reformatted twice by myself. I know it's soon to be time for a new one, but I've become a lil fustrated with this update. Any suggestions?

Does reformatted mean that you reinstalled windows? That doesn't do anything but fix the problems made by the user, and virus. You should always install all windows high priority updates, because they are security and windows system fixes. Did you reinstall windows because you had viruses? Do you have a anti-virus program. Do you have anti-spyware programs. Virus and spyware can slow down your system and internet connection. Microsoft's Internet Explorer is very vulnerable to these threats; thats why you should try another browser. Mozilla's Firefox is the best browser out there right now, and its free.(If you use Firefox you will still need to use internet explore to check for windows updates)
Ok heres the thing with spyware, trojens and adware(let call them junk for the rest of this dialog) there is no one program developer that can take care of them all free or not. I know there are tons of programs that say they do, but its not true. It takes alot more work to find, classify, and remove this junk than it does to create them; and there are more people making them than working to get rid of them. Does that mean that there is nothing we can do? No, a good defense is a good offense in this situation. First you need a firewall. A firewall is like the front door to your house, you let in and out what you want but not what you don't. So when junk comes a knockin you can close the door and keep it out. Now there is some clever junk that still gets in, thats where anti junk programs come in. Like i said before there is no ONE program developer that can get rid of them all. So you should use at least two. But doesn't that get expensive you say? No, some of the best programs are free, yes free, as in no yearly fees, one time fees, ect... I know this because i've tried alot of them myself free and not free; and the best were free.(in my experience)
If you want to optimize your system do this in this order(do this after you install any (except your firewall) new programs)1.Click start run and type msconfig, under the startup tab uncheck everything(if you have anti virus you need to find out which box to leave checked in order to have it load up at startup)then restart. after you restart you will get a box saying that msconfig made changes to the system, all you have to do is check the box and click ok. 2.Click start-all programs-accessories-system tools-disk defragmenter and defragment your hard drive(s). 3. Click start-all programs-accessories-system tools-disk cleanup, select the hardrive you want to(do both) check all the boxes under the disk cleanup tab and click ok. Ccleaner is like disk cleanup on steroids, its a great program and it will speed you your internet connection.
As far as buying a new computer you should wait till summer because everything out now will be much cheaper, and they will have updated all the new operating systems (Vista, Leopard ) You should also invest in some virus protection, i can only recommend Norton Internet Security.(It has both firewall and anti virus but is not free)
Well thats it, just remember to keep them updated. Oh yeah below are the links to some free programs(and descriptions of). Download, install, update and run them all and you will be junk free.
Ad -Aware= http://www.download.com/ad-aware-se-pers...
spybot= http://www.download.com/spybot-search-de...
zonealarm= http://www.download.com/zonealarm/3000-1...
Ccleaner= http://www.download.com/ccleaner/3000-21...
Mozilla's Firefox= http://www.download.com/Mozilla-Firefox/3003-2356_4-10620330.html?tag=tab_rev

p.s. these are all free and don't take up allot of processing power unless your using them.

P.S.S. Ccleaner also has a registry cleaner that can fix alot of damage junk could have caused.
