I've heard from friends who have been to Spain that many people speak english there, so you should be ok. You should probably look for some classes in your area becasue languages are very hard to learn on your own. It's best to practice as much as possible and to immerse yourself in the language. While you're in Spain you will most likely pick some of the langauge up, especially if it's a matter of survival and you're surrounded by it. Have fun in Spain, I'm so jelaous!

I don't think there is a REALLY fastway to learn spanish.. but try this:
-buy a dictionary and try to put some sentances you think might be useful toghether.

Many people visit Spain.. I'm sure they speak English! Just try learning how to ask for help.. here are some suggestions:

"No Hablo Español" = "I don't speak Spanish"
"Conoce alguien que hable Ingles?" = "Do you know someone who speaks English?"

"Nesesito Ayuda" = "I need Help" ..

and so on...

i have personally travelled across the world, and i have found that language is not a stumbling block in cultural relationships. most people over the world will speak english. its the traditions and customs that English cannot teach first hand.
Within one month i was able to read hebrew and discern what is written in public forums. but i still needed a translator. thats all you need. and maybe someday you can be the translator.
