I certainly would not attack someone for believing, nor will I tell someone that their god doesn't exist. My own views are that I don't believe in a god, but if you want to it's fine. Just don't try and force your views on me, and I won't try and force my views on you.

Well, right to a point. When you are in an open forum like this, I figure that you are looking for discussion, so I might tell you that god is imaginary, fake, a delusion, or several other things. That isn't meant to make fun of your beliefs, it is just stating mine. I also really don't care if you tell me I'm going to hell. I actually am amused by it. I do try to stay away from insulting someone's intelligence directly by only going after their line of reasoning.

Now, in public is a different situation. I never am the one who brings it up other that to protect science class and keep my tax money from going to promote religion. I also am pretty quick to clear up misinformation that is out there. But I am not the one who brings the subject up.

So basically Atheists should just shut up and let you do as you please because you're Christian? Sorry, but when you're propagating bad behavior Atheists wouldn't and shouldn't shut up about it.

See, the problem with Christians is that they're trying to make their religion into secular law. EVERYTHING is based around Christianity in the world.

Just look at the world to see whats been happening.

It can't be "Happy Holidays" or "Seasons Greetings", it has to be "Merry Christmas" or the Christians start crying "You're persecuting me".

Then the problems with things like trying to bring Intelligent Design into schools, trying to get prayer in schools (only Christian mind you, no other prayer is acceptable by a Christians point of view), trying to ban gay marriage and ban abortion because your bible speaks against it.

I hope you get the point.

The thing is that most Christians can't seem to learn to keep it to themselves. If they can keep it to themselves, we'll all get along fine.

But Atheists shouldn't shut up just because you don't like what they have to say. Atheists fight for the equal rights of EVERYONE rather than just having one favored over another (which the Christians would prefer).

Welcome to the world where we all need to be treated equally rather than your religion getting favored above all others.

I won't make fun of your faith but I will certainly try to free you of it. Here's why. Christian beliefs and the outcome of those beliefs cause a large amount of human suffering (e.g. gay rights, abstinence only defense against STD's, managing of the environment, etc). While many of the more liberal Christians disagree with their conservative counterparts on these issues, they nonetheless provide shelter for their fellow believers and even contribute to them.

As a counter question, why is your faith above my right to question? If a chemist encounters an alchemist should the alchemists beliefs that he can turn lead into gold go unchallenged by the chemist? Look at it from our point of view; we see today's religions as no more rational than a belief in UFO abductions, crop circles, astrology, or the Greek god's of 2500 years ago.

I think this a good rule to follow with your fellow human no matter what his/her religious/spiritual creed is (or isn't). As a Unitarian Universalist, we believe that eveyone has the right to their own spirituality or philosophy and that no one is better than another. Just as all religions have good in them, the humanist philosphy is also meritorious. It makes us take responsibility for our own actions and not blame it on any 'outside force'. AT the same time, it allows us to truly take credit for the good we do. I am not athiest, although many UU's are that or at least humanist, but I know many athiests, and they are often as good, or better, than Christians in their treatment of others.

I don't think you can say "all atheists" feel a certain way or all anybody for that matter. I don't agree though with your policy of to each his own. I think we should all voice our ideas in order to test them against the ideas and feedback of others. If we don't, then we could think we are Superman and no one would ever tap us on the shoulder and say ... um, about you being Superman ....

Idea exchange is healthy, and so is argument - in the pure sense of you saying why you believe a thing, what led you to believe it, and then listening to others' comments. You may hear something that pops one of your ideas like a soap bubble tho, and that's the risk - if you're honest.

I believe faith is irrational and destructive in many circumstances, but I'm not going to make fun of you for being a theist because that would hardly push you to examine and reject your own system of beliefs. I will openly disagree with you, but I will not bend to the sort of childish name-calling that others might. I may not respect your beliefs, but I can grow to respect you.

As long as Christianity, as well as several of the other "ultimate truths", have as their end and gleefully sought after goal, the END OF THE WORLD, and as long as they believe that their rights are being violated if they are denied the opportunity to use the coercive power of the state to shove their god down every ones throat, you will have to put up with us being in your face. Why should we abandon a forum where we can let you know that you will not be allowed to carry out the silly "End Times" rubbish that you seem to forget would include the rest of us.

By the way, it is spelled A-T-H-E-I-S-T

You are a fool if you do not try to change the belief of Atheist. That is the belief of Christians it is their duty to reform people and bring them to the true faith. Why would you just set back and let us poor Atheist go to hell when you could be doing your bit to reform us? What are you a blasphemer? Where does your beliefs lie?Like I said you are an idiot. xx

I am not sure of your question, but I think faith is a really good thing to have, and I would not really ever want to convince someone of letting it go. There is never a problem with having faith in something. I just cant have faith in something I dont particularly agree with
