I've never found anything but check this article out of a find local to where I live.

I had one for years as a kid...didn't find anything valuable (but I was searching on the beach).

I recently found some valuable American Indian coins near a creek (the metal detector didn't pick it up of course, but I got lucky, because it pointed me in the right direction by accident. There was a .22 shell right next to it)

I found a pair of earrings on the seafront! Together and brand new; I think they were lost just after they were bought, fell out of a shopping bag...

We found a diamond ring worth over $10, 000.00 . It belonged to our neighbor and we returned it gladly.
