You damn right I would be upset. If the wedding has already been held I would refuse to pay or at least part. Let them know that if you were having a Halloween party it might, and I say MIGHT be acceptable

It really depends. I have tattoos and used to have piercings and am quite comfortable with body modifications as a rule. However, facial piercings offend my mother and other older, more traditional family members. I would prefer formal waitstaff to not have facial piercings.

Same with surface piercings, I was recently at a Walmart and the cashier had a surface piercing on her wrist that was rejecting and migrating. It was red, inflamed, and oozing. That should not be accepted anywhere.... nasty.

Yes - but those are things that you should ask about in advance. most catering companies are more professional then that, but it is better to clear that issue up BEFORE the reception instead of during.

Oh - and with the tattoos, not such a big deal, as long as they are not plastered from head to toe - most tattoos are in places that can be covered with a white dress shirt. Facial jewelry is another matter all together.

Yes! If the tattoos and/or facial piercings were visible, I would definitely be unhappy. Your wedding is supposed to be an elegant, special day. So it makes sense that you would want clean cut servers, not servers that looked like they belong serving beer in the bar - they are much more fitting for the bachelor/bachelorette party.

oh another princess (ick) People with tattoos and piercings are not 2nd class citizens, and least they are working and not sponging off the state. A person's physical appearance and having tattoos does not affect their job and their ability to serve and be polite, which is surely the most important thing. Next we will have brides saying "Oh I only want blond waitresses, less than size 8 in weight, and no glasses please" Honestly, I think there are bigger issues to worry about than a bit of facial decoration.

I personally wouldn't be upset... but I am young. If I got married today, I might have a tatoo or something showing myself. If it does upset YOU then you have every right to find a new waitstaff... however, if it has already happened... possibly it was something you should have looked into when you made the arrangements beforehand.

I would think any professional place wouldn't let their employees work like that, however... I wouldn't care if they had hair down to their toes, and whatever else, so long as they did a professional job. I don't judge people by the way they look, only if they are dirty and stink, that's where I draw the line.

Added thought, what the heck does your age have to do with it? I'm 49 too, Look back in the 60's, all the judgmental people thought this world was going to h*ll in a hand basket.

Of course. In this country people have a right to make themselves look ridiculous, but there are consequences. Tattoos and piercings can make your life a lot harder. I can't imagine anyone in the service industry hiring people with metal objects in their face. They are going to lose business.

When you decide to get a tattoo or piercing, stop and think how this is going to affect your life. If you want to be perceived as a member of a strange subculture, go ahead. But if you want to be accepted, stop trying to make yourself look like a circus freak.

It doesn't seem appropriate that people with facial piercings and visible tattoos should be hired to wait formal events. I would definitely not be thrilled about this, but if they were polite and did a good job it would be more acceptable.
