A credit card is better because you can use it to secure reservations and other things that a debit card can't do.

There's only disadvantages to a debit card if you can qualify for a credit card and always pay off the credit card bill every month. If you start running up a debt and interest payments on the credit card, cut it up and throw it away. Then maybe a debit card is your only recourse other than cash.

I always use my debit card instead of a credit card. That way, I can't get myself into debt because the money has to be in the bank for the debit card to work.

A credit card is never advisable. If you don't have a guaranteed way to pay it IN FULL each month, you shouldn't be using one. It does not make sense to pay 18% to 25% plus interest on the balance. This used to be called usury, as in loan sharking. If you get in debt and, heaven forbid, have a nasty emergency, the outcome could be ruinous. When you later want to buy - say a car, you will be unable to get a loan from a good source and will end up paying thru' the nose for interest from a secondary source. If you don't have the monehy DON'T BUY ANYTHING! that you can survive without.

Neither are actually "Cool", but a debit card is more useful, since you don't have to pay interest on the funds used, since they are already there.

Debit - because you are spending money you already have; the other one gets you into debt too easily.
