mAH means mili ampere hour.

It is a measure of the energy storage capability of the battery.

If the battery is rated for say 1000mAH, then it is capable of delivering 1000mA for 1 hour.

If the battery were rated for 2000mAH then it could deliver 2000mA for 1 hour, so it would have twice the energy capacity of the first battery.

If you know what your load takes - for example 100mA, then a 1000mAH battery could sustain this load for 10 hours (1000/100).
If the load were 2000mA then the battery could only support the load for half an hour (1000/2000).

The ratings are worked out to a discharge voltage of about 9 volts for lead acid - ie the terminal voltage has reached 9v after 'taking away' its rated capacity.

Bigger capacity means able to run a given load for a greater length of time.

Milli Amp Hours. like Amp Hours when you have to start with a decimal point, normally found on rechargabel batteries, the higher the figure the more potent the Battery is when comparing like for like, However Ni MH Nickel Metal Hydride, at 1.2 volts per cell can be recharged at will to full capacity, whilst Ni Cad Nickel Cadmium again 1.2 volts, must be fully discharged prior to recharging or their effective capacity reduces, and the old non rechargable batteries, which start at 1.5 volts and drop away progressively unlike rechargables which maintain 90% of the initial voltage until almost exhausted.
Generally go for a 1200 mah Ni MH AA cell for your flash light or camera, the 800 is half the price twice the aggro.
Non rechargables are for smoke alarms and clocks.
Because battery energy output varies with voltage which varies as the battery discharges the formula described by V8man above is not applicable in this case.

What Does Mah Mean

mAH is an abbreviation for milliamp hours, or the amount of power contained in the battery.

In general, the higher the mAH rating, the longer the battery will last under a given load. In your application, comparing two batteries with different mAH ratings but otherwise identical, the one with the higher rating will mean your RC car will operate for a longer time.

It is the correct charge rate as specified by the battery manufacturer and should only be replaced by a battery of the same mAh rating otherwise the battery can over heat and EXPLODE

mAh stands for Milliamp Hour, a technical term for how much power a particular battery will hold. Higher mAh values theoretically last longer without requiring a recharge.

This is an easy one, my friend:

m = milli
a = amp
h = hours

So, 15 mah will mean fifteen millamp hours.

And your 2nd Q might make more sense to someone else - sorry about that one.

And I always thought it meant Mean Ampere Hours, like 10 amps for 4 hours,or 4 amps for 10 hours. If I'm wrong I'll stand being corrected.
